Matcha Powder in Brisbane

Hi all,

Looking to buy some Matcha powder to make some Matcha Latte to replace my Coffee Latte in the morning (was introduced to it the other day and liked it), but don't know where to buy these locally in southside Brisbane. I've looked in Woolworths and Coles to no avail. Any suggestions?

  • Asian convenience stores will have it. Plenty of it in Sydney here, but could be much harder to find in Bris.

  • Yeah I'm in Brisbane and get mine off eBay.

  • If I do have to resort to buying it online, any recommended online stores? Obviously should be a good price too since this is OzBargain.

    • I'm in Sydney.. but: http://www.junpacific.com/e/fujimart-qld/index.php

Is that anywhere near you? I've been to their Sydney store and they offer real Japanese matcha that isn't insanely overpriced like you will find online. Less than $10 for 40g.

Another example online: http://www.umeya.com.au/shop/product_info.php/products_id/70… (though it doesn't state any like country of origin on that page, it presumably would be from Japan and not China. I've bought matcha from Jap convenience stores in little canisters like that, for approx. that price. Real deal, no marketing wank and inflated price that you'll find online).

Or here: http://www.jtt.com.au/shopping/tea.html. Same matcha is in that list, and even cheaper!

Those two online stores don't appear to deliver (or 'deriver to your door' lol) beyond Sydney though, but I thought it would still be worthwhile showing you for a bit of an idea on prices from Jap stores.

Maybe try searching online for online Jap grocery stores in Brisbane?

  • I'm no connoisseur of the stuff but I get it from this seller. Chinese though.

  • If you can travel to china town I like to get my asian groceries from Burlington Supermarket. They also offer shipping on all their products on their site which I use as well. This is my tea of choice: http://www.burlingtonsupermarket.com.au/green-tea-powder-720… decent price as well.

  • Some good suggestions there! I shall have a look around tomorrow.

  • Success! Took a little bit of walking around blindly in a local Asian grocery store, but I found this one that OctoToon posted above.

    • +1

$10.20— that's expensive. I've seen this selling for as low as $7.70 at Rhodes in Sydney, and even at that price I'm hesitant to buy it.

      • Yeah that was just the link OctoToon posted - I went to another store and I think it was around the $7.50 mark.

      • Yo, scrimshaw..

        Note the $3.90 matcha :O

It's Maruyu's previous advertisement though, rather than the most recent, but having a browse of all their FB ads gives the impression that their matcha is generally on sale at a good price. Might be worth stopping by and having a look if you're ever nearby and still into drinking it.

        Crazy cheap!
