Need Help with Choosing Car Insurance

Hello ,
Another car insurance help topic . sorry about that . but i still can't figure out which one to choose .

My car model is ( MY08) 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer CJ ES 4D Sedan ( Tiptronic type ) I am currently with RACV with monthly payment of 107$ ( 1250$ per yer )but it's pretty much a lot so i m thinking to cancel is before the payment date . I was looking at the review and bingle look pretty good . they quoted me with 860$ per year.

Forgot to mention i m an international student so my car licence is my country licence which i got in 2008 . I called RACV and they do count my car licence as valid which is why i m currently with RACV . Any advice please

Having an international license adds to insurance cost. It also in some cases add to excess you pay.
Not being of a certain age bracket also contributes to the cost.
Cheapest insurance isn't always the best if it ever comes to a claim. Find reviews of companies who have been hassle free for claims. RACQ (RACV) has been fine for me, Shannons is awesome for me (but you can't get Shannons).

  • +1 for Bingle.
    Check also Progressive Online.

i checked Progressive Online as well . The quoted me 860$ for annual pay or over 1200$ with monthly pay . dont know why it's so much different with monthly and annual .

        $860….$1200

      • Its securing you as a customer for the whole year. Same reason why car/house rentals are cheaper per day the longer you rent it. If you pay yearly and decide to call it off at any time they still have a customer for the year and don't lose any payment.

It is also a cash-in-hand thing. The same amount of money now is better than later with interest and opportunity costs whatever.

It is only worth it to pay monthly if you're going to use it for less than 8 months.

Try NRMA. They gave me a good price.

        • I can't afford to pay the full yearly price at the moment :( and NRMA dont offer for VIC … Thx for ur reply !

          AAMI?

    Try Coles Car Insurance.

  • The premium is not the only consideration, Check what your basic excess is going to be also, if you need cover for windscreen and is that windscreen excess free.

  • What did you end up getting, TripleNet? I am also searching now…

    • i will go with RACV as i dont really have choose ! I was thinking to go with bingle but for an extra 300$ i will go with the better company and bingle dont offer Market Value as i dont like agree . Budget direct dont offer for the foreign licence . Alianz will charge extra 500$ on top of basic excess in case of claim because i am with foreign car licence. Coles Car insurance ( they quoted me over 3600$) is way too expensive than RACV not sure why same goes for woolworth car insurance . AAMI quoted me over 1500$ .So RACV is best for my case with 625 basic excess . BTW i am 25 years old .

  • Here is what I do. I avoid the cheaper small insurance companies and only get quote from AAMI, Coles and Alianz, then sign up the one with lowest cost. At the renewl time, again I get quotes and switch because the current company always quotes way higher for renewals. Don't wanna pay the lazy tax. :)
