Family member has another 10 months to go on OPTUS plan, with a Galaxy S4. At what stage is he able to upgrade to another phone and new plan. Does he have to wait the whole 10 months. He wants to get a Galaxy S5. Thank you in advance.

The only way is to ask optus. You can ask them to payout some amount and start on the S5 as well. I don't think it would be advantageous to you though.

Thank you. Did not know that. Will pass this info on. Would be better to wait for the newer model. I think that we will need to wait for a while before an offer to re-contract becomes available anyway.
You might be able to upgrade 3 months earlier, ask Optus about it.
