CitiBank Plus Transaction A/C - Customer Declaration Form - Privacy Concerns

I have recently opened a CitiBank Plus Transaction A/C and are asked to fill in the Customer Declaration Form Individual (http://www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/pdf/MCG15273.pdf) . Physical copies of ID eg driving license ,passport, medicare card also required to send with the form to Citibank. I have some concern with privacy issues here. The main purposes of this form is to gather information for use of US tax dept. As I have already passed the 100 point ID check (through Austpost) and have declared that I am neither US citizen nor US tax resident in the application process, why US tax dept still wants to know me?????

  • because they want to gather data … terrorism, tax evasion, ID fraud, etc.
Nothing personal to you, but generally, who can say declaration form is 100% reliable these days ..

    My 2c thought

  • I think a better question is why are you concerned about the US knowing your details. Facebook, Google and even ozbargain know more about you and your habits, but you are worried if a government finds out???

    Your concerns are misdirected

    • I have no problem supplying personal details to the Australian Govt. But why do I have to deal with US Govt..
I do not even have the intention of visiting USA!!

    • Facebook , Google and OzBargain have fewer armed drones to be accidentally targeted at your wedding party.

  • The form states -

If the Declaration is not received your account information may be reported to the United States Internal Revenue Service (US IRS), via the Australian Tax Office (ATO), which may prompt inquiries to you from the US IRS.

So if the form is completed the info just stops at the ATO.

(If not completed, the info does go to the IRS, who may make an erroneous match and next thing you know the CIA will organize a rendition)

I just hope IVI doesn't open a Citibank Account (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/184048)
