Virgin Australia Domestic fares may be about to rise in March (Saver Lite fares to be dropped)

From here:

Virgin Australia are going to remove the Saver Lite fares (Carry On Only) from all domestic routes on March 17. The press release doesn't say if normal Saver fares will go down or stay the same (or go up!)…but if I were a betting man, I wouldn't bet on them going down…

Note: I haven't seen the release myself and have not been able to verify it with other sources.

  • Maybe donga can give more info…

    • No official word from our Pricing team yet but my guess is that most Saver fares will remain the same price but new Saver sale fares will be introduced on some flights to keep the previous lowest prices.

In addition to bags now being included on all fares, food will also be provided on all fares and menus are being upgraded on those routes that already provided food.

      In summary:

      • People who normally purchase Saver Lite fares will now pay about $15 more. In exchange they will be able to check in a bag and get food on board. In some cases they will receive the bag/food for the same price as before.

      • People who normally purchase Saver fares will still pay the same price but now get food included.

      • Jaktogo users can now check in their luggage and travel a little more comfortably. :)

      • So the food on the Perth <-> Bris, Syd and Melb flights will be uhh, better?

        • Yes.

        • +1

          @donga100:

Can I get a Jaktogo with Kevlar? lol

  • If I booked a flight pre-March 17, how do they know if I am meant to have a meal with my Saver or not? Or do all domestic flights get a meal now, regardless of when you booked?

    • All will get food regardless of fare booked. However, if you booked a Saver Lite fare you will still not be entitled to baggage.

  • I'm guessing part of the reason is they now own tigerair. Long gone are the days of $1 sale fares from when they first started flying as budget airline Virgin Blue.

  • So they're taking another step to full service?
Food and bags included like Qantas? Nice!

    • I hope we see more Tiger Air flights and routes. Unfortunately they already dropped their Sunshine Coast flights (where I live).

      • +1

I have a feeling you will see some more Tiger destinations…
