  • Hmm it's trying to charge me $69.95 on the gift card. There's something wrong with the website.

  • "Hmm it's trying to charge me $69.95 on the gift card. There's something wrong with the website."

    Perhaps not.

    $79 - $15 = $64. Postage is $5.95 so $64 + $5.95 = $69.95.

It sounds like you have postage in your final price. The title of this deal does say "$64 (+ Delivery)".

    • I had to cancel the complete order and redo it.

      It actually said the following: $79 - $15 - $69.95 = Balance $-5.95

I wouldn't trust these things. Any "Internet of Things" device adds extra vulnerability to your network security:

    http://www.networkworld.com/article/2226371/microsoft-subnet…

Despite Belkin stating that they've fixed the vulnerabilities that were found last year, how do we know there aren't more that haven't been made public yet? The vulnerabilities should never have been there in the first place.

Of course you can just block internet access & only allow it to work internally.
Then if you really need to remotely access it, then you can setup a VPN to your internal network & do it that way. I do that with a Synology box (which I use for the VPN) then I can connect in & control other devices in the house.

But I agree even after all the ongoing security issues, manufacturers don't seem to want to lock their devices down securely, or worse allow consumers at least the option to do this.

      • I'm more concerned that some of these devices operate over wifi and have reset modes that can be reset via wifi, with no network access required. Google's ChromeCast had this issue when it was first released, and so did this Belkin. I don't know if those issues have been patched yet:
        http://hackaday.com/2013/01/31/turning-the-belkin-wemo-into-…

Internal network access often isn't required, it's people gaining direct access via wifi that'll get you. If somebody can bypass your network, access the WeMo via wifi and extract your real password, they can access your entire network and unless you keep network logs of ALL traffic on your wifi router between all your devices, you won't even know it!

  • The Belkin WeMo Switch and WeMo Motion Kit gives you wireless control of your home appliances and electronics, turning devices of your choice on or off as soon as movement is detected. The sensor plugs into an outlet and detects motion up to 10 feet3m away. It then sends a wireless signal to the WeMo Switch to turn the connected device either on or off. Download the free WeMo app to any Apple device (iOS 5 or higher)* to program a light to turn on when you walk into the house or a fan to turn off when you leave.

$79 at Wireless1 with free shipping for anyone who missed out before Dick put the price up. Not as good as OP's deal though. Not 100% sure it is same product as OP's, part number in specs look right but pictures are different?
