Polar H7 Bluetooth Heart Rate Monitors

Hi all,

Did a search, not many deals on these in a long time, I looked at the last deal and the place which ran it is in the UK. A lot of the UK sites (including that one) has reverted to that bastard "detect an Aussie IP, offer Aussie prices" trick, same with all my old business shirt sites, ugh, sigh.

So anyone seen any bargains or have tips? Did some basic googling, looks like $85 AUD shipped is kinda the best you'll see from what I found, anyone seen better?

They work with Strava / Endomondo, some gym equipment and use some kinda low power BT spec or some such (need a Galaxy S3 or higher minimum? Iphone 4) - apparently they are probably the best bet to buy for compatibility.

Any thoughts? I'm only considering one if I can see a sensible price, I'm only dipping the toes in the fitness thing :)

Thanks.

  • Have you checked with your private health provider if they have discounts on these? At one stage, Medibank Private members were getting a discount at The Polar Shop in Adelaide(not sure if this was seasonal though).

Finally, I also got something like $10ish off my purchase, all I did was ask if they were offering any discounts…

    • Private health? This is Australia, I don't believe in it, we'll turn into bloody America if people keep using the things.

ALDI got a Bluetooth HRM on sale this saturday for $39.99. Also comes with 3 years warranty.

    • Thanks but I want one compatible with Strava on my Android phone.

    • You know I've done some googling, and I think it might actually work. I know Polar has brand name recognition and what have you but … yeah savings, YO.

I can confirm the Aldi one will work with a Galaxy S3, you'll need to get the LATEST OF THE LATEST S3 ROMS for BT LE (BT Smart) to work properly in 4.0 mode or whatever it's called but once you do, yep it works.

Spent nearly a day getting it working, but S4 owners or newer iphone owners won't have an issue.
Saved me $40 easily, thank you.

  • I bought mine from Wiggle a while ago, signing up for their newsletter and using the discount code to save some $ (don't think they have the newsletter promo anymore?). Their current price isn't too bad, but the AUD has kinda killed it.

I used my H7 for Strava for a while, before switching to a complete Garmin Edge cycling set. Still use the H7 for running though and find it works great.

You could also consider them new fitness bands with integrated heart rate monitors? Not sure how accurate or useful they are though.
