Android charge cables and wall charger

Can anyone recommend very good quality android device charging cable (micros usb i presume) and wall charger
My kids have wrecked the cables that came with their Nexus 7 tablets
I have experienced that the 'official' manufacture cable and charger work better than cheap after market ones
Can anyone recommend cables and chargers of OEM quality
After multiple - say 4 chargers and 8 or 10 cables
Thanks

I bought two of these, working great.

Samsung brand name on the top but they will still power the nexus 7 fine.

    • Very good bet that those are fake, for that price. Have you actually measured the current output? Does your Nexus 7 charge slower than with its original charger?

      • charges the same as my two original Samsung chargers.

Would suggest getting a genuine charger otherwise you may run into problems (charger overheating, lower charge rate, etc.)

    • Umm Yeah - that's the point of the request
Please advise where to buy genuine

  • Is there any reason why you want 4 chargers? I've seen some third party massive chargers that have like 4~6 USB ports so you can charge that many stuff on it.

I'm guessing different rooms at home, work, etc.. I like to have one charger at my desk and another one near the bed.

      • I was going to suggest Anker too, heard decent things about them.

If you can get this to Australia cheap, that would be good (i.e. ship forwarder)

        • Yea, they did at one point (last November/December, in fact). Not sure why they stopped. Might be available again in a few months - maybe they're low on stock?

Actually, I don't remember seeing the cable bundle at that time either.

        • @elusive: :( It might be warranty stuff… Most of the stuff with warranty seem to not ship to Australia… :(

        • @AznMitch: But the cables with warranty I just ordered do ship to Australia. Looks like none of their chargers do anymore :(

      • As per elusive - I need multiple chargers for different locations - bedroom/kitchen/work etc

  • I've asked the question about chargers, fairly recently: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172346

Ended up getting the Anker 40W (5-port) charger from Amazon. About 35 USD shipped. Unfortunately, it seems like their current stock doesn't ship here anymore. It charges my S4 at full power (1.2A - 1.9A) with a good cable. You'll need a simple AU => US travel adaptor - it takes 240 V, but has a US plug.

As for cables… the Tikbro ones are good for fast charge, but the connectors are shit and won't take long to break. It's hard to find good cables… Monoprice ones are said to be good, but also have connector issues and are hellishly expensive to ship here - something like $50 shipping, so unless I'm buying bulk…

I recently ordered a 5-pack of Anker cables, 13 USD + ~10 USD shipping. They claim 21 AWG power wires (anything bigger than 24 AWG is good; lower AWG number is bigger), and reviews look decent. They'll arrive within the next week - I'll test them and update here if I remember. They claim 18 month warranty, but I don't know if that extends internationally.

    • Just received the Anker cables. They look and feel very solid, and can handle a 2A current without any problems whatsoever. The connector has a very satisfying click, and seems better than the Tikbro ones. So they certainly work - not sure how long they'll last, but should be at least as long as the Tikbro cables, probably far longer.

How? Have they broken both the cable bit and the wall plug bit?

You could buy several of these https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Phone-Accessories/cygnett/c… but they will set you back quite a bit

    • They broke the cable just be mistreatment - leave them plug in and pull around - wires break at the junction
Haven't broken the wall chargers but the tablets didn't come with wall plugs
We have been using old iphone/ipad plugs but they are wearing out I think - slow recharge times etc

Really? Did you buy used or something? Anyway you'd need iPad chargers for fast charging. That is the iPhone chargers are 5w and the ipad ones are 10/12w…

As others have suggested try Amazon as they will likely be the cheapest…

Don't use Apple chargers for non-Apple devices. Most manufacturers follow the USB charging specification, while Apple follows their own completely incompatible signalling protocol. Basically, non-Apple devices will probably not try to draw the full 2A an Apple charger may be able to put out.

Actually, newer devices (incl. Samsung since S4 and also Nexus 7 2013) use Qualcomm Quick Charge, which is somewhat compatible with the USB spec. That's why I recommended Anker above - they seem to be able to detect the device type and switch to the correct protocol. Some other products also claim this ability.

Just gotta be careful cause there's a heck of a lot of fakes out there, especially on sites like eBay. Heck, even Amazon has a bunch of fakes…

@elusive: Not sure that is true… I've charged my portable usb charger and my camera with my iPhone charger and it was fine. Maybe because I did it overnight.

I'm actually surprised at the number of fakes on Amazon. I didn't realise anyone could become a member like on eBay. I thought it was controlled?

@knick007: Oh, they'll work. Especially for dumber devices like battery packs and cameras. But modern smartphones do a form of detection to try to determine how much current they can draw - if they're plugged into a USB data port then drawing too much can fry the port or even the motherboard. The end result is they will often limit themselves to drawing about 500 mA, rather than the full 1A/2A the charger may be capable of. They'll take longer, but shouldn't damage anything.

I don't know what kind of controls Amazon has, but there certainly are a lot of fakes. Not sure what the charger situation is - I just remember looking for a HS330 headset recently and getting a whole bunch of results with reviews claiming fakes.

        • @elusive: Thanks this is good advice
Thanks also @knick007 I did not know that about iphone vs ipad chargers

    • Seems to be a discontinued product? http://au.cygnett.com/Chargers?pages=1-2#p694

And this page claims it only charges at 1A max. That's pretty slow for a tablet.

Might be best to just search for OEM chargers for odd phones like some of the Motorolas or Nexus even. Perhaps odd LG/Samsung chargers. Make sure to read the feedback to see if they are fake or not. I think DX or Aliexpress might be a good idea to check the reviews on each.

    Lastly, check out www.fasttech.com

I've bought a lot of charging related stuff from there and if you know what to get it can be of very high quality and genuine.

You could also consider investing in USB powerpoints/sockets:

  • As far as the Cables go (not the wall plugs) does anyone have any recommendation of quality ones to buy please
