5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,704 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points)

2650

UPDATE: Promotion is still running. From AusBT article:

There's now "an additional check for the promotion to verify enrolment in Australia, in line with the terms and conditions of the promotion."

"We decided to add the extra check after we had a number of applications since the promotion launched that did not meet the terms & conditions of the promotion" the spokesperson added.

"Customers seeking to benefit from the promotion will now need to email [email protected] after signing up for a new KrisFlyer account and provide a local contact number in Australia for verification."

Main link updated.

Just quoting verbatim from an e-mail I received from Singapore Airlines. Unsure when the 5,000 miles (or 10,000 miles, if you book a flight) are deposited into your account.

Sign up to KrisFlyer between 4 – 31 March 2015, insert the promotional code “KFACQPU” in the communication preferences area of the form, and you will earn 5,000 Bonus KrisFlyer miles to count towards your next trip.

Double your rewards and earn an additional 5,000 bonus miles when you book and complete your first return journey within six months of your enrolment date.

This promotion is valid for enrolments in Australia from 4 March 2015 to 31 March 2015 inclusive and for the first trip booked travel must commence from Australia between 4 March 2015 and 30 September 2015 inclusive and valid for return trips only. Eligible Cabin Classes: First /Suites Classes; R,F,A; Business Classes; Z,C,J,U,D; Premium Economy Classes; S,T,P and Economy Classes: Y,B,E,M,H,W,N,V. This promotion is only valid for enrolments and bookings made via singaporeair.com.

Now, why did I put Velocity in the title? If KrisFlyer is not your thing, bear in mind that as part of the alliance between Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia, you can convert those KrisFlyer miles to Velocity Frequent Flyer points at a rate of 1.35 miles to 1 point. More details here.

Edit: I received my miles 4-5 hours after registering my account.

25 March - To Confirm:

This promotion code (KFACQPU) is no longer valid online. To take advantage of the promotion, remove the code you have entered and click "Continue" to submit your completed enrolment form. Please email [email protected] with your KrisFlyer account number and a local contact number in Australia for verification. Conditions apply.

        • @jlqc5899:

Thats great but didn't you say they verify the details? or this is done instantly by a computer when you add it in?

        • @drewh:

This —> or this is done instantly by a computer when you add it in?

  • What is the approximate value of 5000 krisflyer points when used for a flight?

I am looking at singapore airline prices and they dont seem to be very good.. Im thinking it will just bring a fair down to a 'normal' price from other airlines..

    • better of using velocity.

10,000 points all up will get you a short haul (incl taxes) mel-syd/syd-bne etc..

so sign three people up and you have a free short haul flight. Sign a few more and you can go further..

pretty easy stuff for only a few mins work.

  • I just signed up my family. However when I get the confirmation page it says that my card will be sent out when I make my first qualifying purchase. I correctly filled out the form and entered the promotional code as required.

Does one have to buy something to get the points?

    cheers Peter

    • +1

No. You will still get the points. They are just covering their overheads, might cost them $20 to make a card and send it down to Australia, they will only bother with the serious flyers.

However, buy a flight with them and they are interested so they will ship out a card.

  • Can I enroll my family not living in Australia

    • This promotion is only for Australians.
Although, I suppose you could use your home address for them.

  • If I create another KrisFlyer account for a sibling.. and I link My Velocity account (its linked to my other account) if I unlink the velocity account from my account and link to my siblings new account can I then transfer the points across?

    • Try it. :)

      edit: No, doesn't work.

  • Note that they won't necessarily link your Velocity account if other details are not the same (I suspect it's the email, though it could be the mailing address). Once I made sure all my details aligned, the linkage was no problem.

  • Points arrived overnight. At the risk of asking a stupid question how do I transfer to velocity I have had a look through the Kris Flyer website but cannot see it.

    • +3

Yes very silly question. ;) You didnt read the whole post by OP! Shame on you. They look the hard work/time to do it.

It is on the first page/description of the ozbargain deal. OP did well and wrote it nicely.

  • (profanity) yeah. good job OP!

  • +1

If you have a large extended family this deal could work out very well for you…

Velocity allows you to transfer points to eligible family members* with minimum 5k points transferred each time. You can get more than 5k points in a single account by family pooling up to 2 adults and 4 children who live at the same address.

*husband/wife/domestic partner/de facto, parent/child, brother/sister, grandparent/grandchild, son/daughter-in-law, brother/sister-in-law, father/mother-in-law, uncle/aunt, nephew/niece, first cousin, or any foster, step or adopted relationship in any of these categories.

I personally have at least 17 people who fall into the above categories. This could net me 62,968 points which is more than enough for a one way Melbourne to London flight (+$107.17 taxes).

    • Anything stipulating such a person has to exist?

    • 17>6?

      • 6 per address.

    • Is the minimum 5,000 points not an issue - when you transfer the 5,000 Kris over, you will get ~3,700 velocities. So you will need to top up each account with another 1,300 points (estore?) before you can transfer out?

      • +1

That's right, so you should set up family pooling with Velocity to pool the points of at least two people in to one account. You could then transfer the points to another account.

    • Nice one Donga. How do you manage 'family members' that don't live at the same address? Seems to work well and good for 6, but is there a way to capitalise (and pooL) those living elsewhere?

      • Create a family pool for each family/address (max 2 adults + 4 children). You can then transfer the points from the head of each family to your account if the account holder permits it.

      • Change your address so it's the same, then change it back later.

  • +1

Couldnt see if this has been answered - but you cannot transfer points from multiple Krisflyer accounts to the single Velocity - each Kris flyer will need a unique velocity account to transfer to.

    • -5

Yes you can. Just link Velocity to one, convert, unlink it, link Velocity to next, convert - you get the idea.

Edit - make sure Velocity email matches that of Krisflyer one (go in and change it each time in Velocity Account Details).

      • +1

I'm guessing they'll be able to crack down on such a blatant hack, given how obvious it will be when transferring to the same number (bearing in mind that SIA owns a fair chunk of VA).

      • Thats called fraud.

  • We are unable to process your request. Please try again later or contact your local Singapore Airlines for assistance.

I can't send my points to Velocity!

    • +3

Check that your email address, DOB, names and even postal address match on both accounts.

  • +1

The Singapore Air marketing team must be about to get a nasty shock…. hundreds, if not thousands, of new members signing up overnight… then find out they've just cleared them all over to Velocity.

  • Thanks, worked great!

  • +1

Just signed up family of 5. See how we go here :)

  • +1

So can someone just confirm with this family pooling of say 5, you 1) signed up for 5 different Krisflyer accounts each with a unique family member's name and the same address, 2) set up family pooling on Velocity to a family head, 3) linked each family member's Velocity to the corresponding Krisflyer, then converted each across to Velocity, and the 'family head' can use them all?

    • +2

Exactly drewh. The only trick is that the pooling has to be set up before you convert the miles. Otherwise, each family member would need 5000 points to establish a transfer.

  • Also need to add passport details to process conversion - was receiving error until i did this

    • -1

Not true. Worked for both my kids and they don't even have passports. Must have been something else causing your error. Comments above from the person who built the software suggest DOB, email and name is ask that needs to be identical in both KrisFlyer and velocity

      • +2

weird. tried many times to convert but worked after i saved the passport details. anyway, just an option for others if it fails for them!

        • -1

There's seem to be a bug when you need to update your profile after initial registration, it will ask you for your passport details even though it's not mandatory particularly. Oh well, we're all wrong because it didn't work as smoothly unlike certain members.

  • I've figured out what's the go with the kids thing - they need the guardian's KrisFlyer number on signup. If you have to enter it later, it will not let you proceed with it until you slap the kid's passport number in there.

Also with Velocity family pooling - it needs 5000 points minimum. What I've done is transfer 5k into the kids account then clean that out with a transfer of 8704 points. There's gotta be a more efficient way to do this without using up the 4 transfer per year especially you've got more than 4 members in the pool.

    • Both points you raise are incorrect.

      1) you don't need the guardians KrisFlyer number for the kids to work. I did it for my two kids no problems. Read the comments above, the guy who built the KrisFlyer software is on ozbargain and says what you need.

      2) you're confusing family transfers with family pooling. With family pooling you don't have to make any transfer it sucks up to the family head automatically. No manual transfers and no minimum points. You need to go into "My Benefits" inside each kids velocity account and nominate the family head where you want points and status credits to go to. Then its automatic after that

    • +2

Pooling allows points to pass through to the beneficiary account.

5k point minimum is for transfers, which can be from any relative, as far as I can see.

  • Perhaps this will also contribute to this offer if booked by 9th March also?
    https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Specials/Airli…

    • +1

Unlikely. That offer is for Virgin bookings, whereas this offer is for Singapore Airlines bookings. Codeshare flights are excluded, and even if you could find and book a Virgin-marketed and Virgin-operated flight on the Singapore Airlines website, you'd have to supply either your KrisFlyer or Velocity number (not both), so no chance of double dipping.

  • does anyone know of a current Velocity sign up promo code? need to create account for the inlaws.

  • For the sake of not having too many different accounts which one day could potentially be hacked/phished or whatever - is it safe to close the Krisflyer account as soon as the points have been converted to Velocity points?

  • This may be closed. the code worked a few hours ago, now "The partner promotion code is invalid"

  • Yep, deal has been shut down.

  • So even if you have 5000 miles, you can no longer transfer? That stinks. Oh well got some across. 2 accounts were too late.

  • Anybody having any issues linking the accounts? I keep getting the below error message:

"We are unable to process your request. Please try again later or contact your local Singapore Airlines for assistance. "

    • If it newly created this, it's not always instant. I had to wait 24 hours.

    • phew Switched to chrome and it gave me the successful miles conversion message. Maybe try that for the linking of the accounts?

      edit

I get that error when I try and convert the miles but the linking the accounts was fine. I linked the accounts earlier in the afternoon though so..

Surely they have not shut this deal down 22 days in advance of the intended finish date? What did they expect was going to happen?

Also what did I expect was going to happen?! Argh, why did I not convert the miles earlier! stupidstupidstupid

      • -1

        error all around

  • i created my account last week. i think some ppl above had similar issues.

    damn!

  • Was too easy to hack. No doubt they saw the transfers to Velocity, and decided it was defeating its purpose.

  • what happen to new account sign up today ? will it be honour ?

  • Hmm, Mum tried to just link her account and got told the promotion code is invalid.

  • Anyone having issues login to their Velocity account now?

    • Yes, looks like the accounts have been blocked now?

    • +1

Yes, mine is blocked even though I didnt take advantage of this offer (already a KF member) nor did I have anyone pool or transfer KF/VA miles into my account.
I suspect they've blocked all accounts while they try and solve the mess of offering a promotion that was stupidly generous and being surprised that people took advantage of it.
If we could easily see the holes in this offer why couldn't the loyalty experts at these airlines?!

      • +1

The Velocity account being blocked at the moment may just be a coincidence. There is a generic message saying that all accounts may be affected by the outage from 3:30pm today and it is currently being worked on. Or it may not be a coincidence…?

        • Can login now, but there is this message: "Your account is currently inactive. You will not be able to update your details or redeem points. Please contact the Membership Contact Centre on 131 875 to have your account activated."

        • @jlqc5899:

Mine seems fine. I redeemed my points yesterday so hopefully it is honoured (probably won't be).
$70 Voucher, though I would have gotten $120 if I was quicker.

        • @jlqc5899: My account's fine. They may just wanna verify the legitimacy of the number of people you've pooled into your account?

      • +1

If we could easily see the holes in this offer why couldn't the loyalty experts at these airlines?!

No one was expecting the offer will reach OzB, AFF and Pointhacks.

        • Why not? Pretty much every single frequent flyer promo reaches AFF and Pointhacks.

        • @donga100:

Perhaps I should rephrase it - SQ probably wasn't expecting the offer to be plastered all over the place and SQ to VA transfers. Better now?

  • -1

The signup code is now saying it is invalid

    • Ditto

    • Hence why the deal is expired.

      • -8

It was written before the expired header had been put on it…

        • +4

It was expired 9:15pm Monday Night

  • Account was blocked, called in to re-activate, was told the account was going through an "audit" and will be resolved in about 30 days.

    • Was this Velocity or krisflyer?

      • Velocity

        • How many times did you sign up? Fictional characters used?

        • +1

          @mini2:

Added my housemates lol. I have 3 housemates, added one of them twice with different emails. That might explain the audit.

        • -1

@quirki: did your account get reactivated? what happened??

    • Damn, Should we quickly cash out on gift cards before the accounts get blocked?

      • If you haven't been hit by the banhammer yet I think you should be safe.

    • To help people get an indication of what may and may not cause you to be blocked:
My account hasn't been blocked. I was already linked with my mum, so I got Kris points from her. I then removed her from the family pool and added dad, and got Kris points from him. So a little dodgy, but the family pool rules don't say you can't replace a member. I didn't go overboard with extended family or fake accounts, so I guess that's why I haven't been blocked.

    • did your account get reactivated??

  • Hey Guys, i have the Kris Points but cant convert to Virgin,

what do you suggest i do ?

    • +2

Link your accounts from the Velocity side first, then transfer from the KrisFlyer side.

      • I think his problem is Krisflyer won't allow conversion to Velocity at all from his account. Possibly they've stopped any new accounts using that signup from converting points, when the points are freebies.

        • That's a little bit concerning. Have others who have gotten 5000 KrisFlyer points been able to convert to Velocity?

  • Sounds like they are requiring further validation through emailing customer service and providing a phone number to verify residency:

    http://www.ausbt.com.au/join-singapore-airlines-krisflyer-gr…

Could be why including passport numbers made a difference in some of the comments above, if that allows them to verify you at least have an Australian passport?

    • +1

And a captcha to stop the robots.

  • So i signed up for a new account.. code didn't work but sent them an email from email with australian mobile number. points have still not posted. any comments on how long after email it takes for points to post? I've emailed them at the link provided and thru their contact us link.

    • i haven't received any points yet too. got the automated email saying they'll reply within 5 days but that was 12 days ago now..

  • Anyone having SQ calling them?

    I signed up 3 accounts.

    • Did you speak to them? Are you point's with VA or SQ?

  • Darn I already have an account with SIA and just flew with them. I wonder if they let me register a new one with the sane name ?

  • +3

Just got an email from Virgin with a letter attached stating that because 2 or more transactions were deposited into my account, they are currently in the process of cancelling all but one of the points transactions due to breach of Krisflyer terms.

Funny thing was, they sent it to about 100 people and left their emails exposed, then tried to re-call the message. Haha. Someone will be in the bad books I'd say.

    • Same email here.
Kris Flyer and Velocity really have made a mess of this whole situation.

    • But was it a transfer from another Velocity account, or two Krisflyer accounts in your name, transferring to your Velocity?

    • +2

Poor Virgin, released the email addresses of most ozbargain users.

      • That's a breach of privacy

        • +3

It's OK. They told everyone to delete the email and ignore the addresses. All good.
