14 left as of posting. I stumbled upon this after spending a little too much time looking for an enclosure. I ordered one for myself and it arrived after two days. Works great and shipping is actually free (might only be in Australia).

  • Does it come with the usb 3.0 cable?

    It doesn't meantion it in the description.

    • Yes it does.

    The image they used clearly shows a Samsung Story external drive (there is a red 'STORY' printed on the left and the twist knob that allows you to power on the drive and adjust the white LED light underneath the drive).

    Does it really look like that? The description mentions 'Altech' as the manufacturer, although I'm fairly certain they are a distributor and not actually a manufacturer.

    • Yeah, it is the Samsung STORY Station 3 enclosure. I was a bit confused when I got it - I thought it was just a generic enclosure. It's an OEM package so I'm not sure what the go is with it.

  • thanks bought one

  • $16.90 (RRP $45)

    It was the same price 3 weeks ago, so they haven't reduced it $28

  • i found a docking station for 3'5 inch drives a lot handier.

    basically makes any drive hot swap plug and play

    • Not very portable though.

        why not ?

        • You need to take bulky unenclosed hard drives and a docking station around instead of an all in one HD.

          @snagseb:

          just as portable as this enclosure, possibly smaller.

          and you get the benefit of using any hard disk, not just stuck with one.

          just sharing my experience, in my opinion an external hard disk which requires a power cord is not portable at all (such as this one)

          and dont call a hard disk bulky comparing it to this box and bunch of wires lol i guess when you put it in an enclosure it stops being bulky, he he.

          pure rubbish

          @millusions:

          I have both, so I am just sharing my point of view. With my dock I need power, and a USB/SATA cable, plus it is an awkward shaped device, more fragile. One convenience is that you can swap hard drives yes, but you aren't going to be plugging that into a TV at a mates house are you?

          @snagseb:

          oh god, you need power AND USB with a dock,

          geezus, how bulky lol

          @millusions:

          Calm down buddy, so you can't use it with a TV? Thankyou, point proven, have a nice day.
