Best Place to Buy a Cheap Expensive-Looking Watch?

Hey guys, I'm finally at the age where good looks count towards getting a good job so I really want to purchase a good-looking formal watch (ones that look gold or silver and looks rich) without breaking the bank, because sadly i cannot afford such a luxury. I just want something can will look good from afar, because no one would really watch up to your watch and say 'hey, that's not a such and such watch'

Example looks would be designer brands like TAG Heuer and Rolex.

A website that I saw floating around on Facebook is Cadence Watch Company, however I currently question it's validity until maybe someone here has announced their experience with it?

Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking to spend maybe at most $200 if possible, and any less would be even greatly appreciated.

  • Why don't you try gumtree or eBay for a second hand Swiss watch.
It's going to cost you more than $200 but IMO you'll be less likely to get over it.
Your best bet is less well known Swiss watch brand as they copied less.
Also insist on getting it checked by an expert at point of sale to ensure its genuine.eg Swiss watch expert or opp shop and do research how to spot a fake.
Otherwise for your $200 budget you can find a very good quality seiko/citizen watch worth around $800 from eBay and gumtree but you might have to wait around until a bargain comes along.
Cruise ships also sell expensive looking watches for very low prices but personally id stay away

  • Maybe you can try find a deal like this:

I have a Citizen from starjewels I bought for $100 ("was $300") and a friend who works in a jewelry store thought it's worth $300-350.

They have a super sale ongoing atm:

    • Citizen or Seiko, stay with silver, something simple.

If you try to get something that looks too sporty, it draws attention to the watch and cheapens it. If it's a work watch, a nice plain face will go with everything.

I used to work with a guy who drove a Nissan Pulsar, wore a $100 Seiko watch, lived in a plain jane 2 bedroom unit and was on $1.1m a year. It stuck with me when I was talking to his PA and she said that he'd never felt the need to buy into the glitz of money and couldn't see why he needed a sports car to sit in traffic or an expensive watch to do the same job a cheap one did. He was an authentic leader who I admire greatly.

Don't compare yourself to others. The guy beside you with a Patek probably bought a knock off or put it on credit. Be smart and know that everyone starts somewhere.

(Also, if you're in a corporate job, hit Myer for the half yearly sales to load up on business shirts at 50% off, then spend what you save getting them tailored if required. A collection of good quality, well fitted clothes will make you stand out more in a corporate office day after day than a shiny watch.)

Was beaten to the star jewels comment! I reckon the Citizen watches, in particular the Edefice jobs, are excellent value. If you want an ugly lump of metal on the wrist then you can always search places like deal extreme etc for knock offs but don't expect it to tell the time. But. A good watch is not going to get you a job. If you are talking to someone who is impressed by expensive watches, they will probably want to look at it and then work out fairly quickly its a fake. Personally, I'd spend the $200 on a smart watch like a Pebble - I get stacks more interest in that than my Swiss watch. Humorous story - someone I knew planned for months on buying a Tag and eventually made the jump. Many thousands of dollars later, he had to ask me what the time was - his watch wasn't working because he hadn't worn it enough and didn't have a winder station…..

Get a $250 Iconic Shop voucher via signing up with ING Bank (or you may be able to buy the voucher code from Gumtree) then look for a watch online at the Iconic Shop.
Purchases over $50 are free delivery.

  • IF you join Bargains Exclusive for free, they are always selling designer brands watches, jewellery and handbags for massive discounts. And their stuff is not knockoffs. Of course don't expect the Rolex site to be on there.

  • Thailand :D

  • Get something from a cheaper mainstream brand from a reputable online retailer like the Singaporean outfit Sky Watches, plenty of Orients (mainstream Japanese brand) and as others have suggested citizens and seikos that will fill the brief.

E.g this one looks like a Longines Hydroconquest, versatile can be worn with jeans or a suit

The orient symphony is a classy looking dress watch

  • This would be my recommendation: Orient Bambino.

I've just bought one for a friend and it's a fantastic looking watch and very good quality for the price. Google the reviews. There are many that rave about it. If I were to buy a dress watch I would consider this (and I own sport Rolexes and Omega's).
