Ocean Selections vs Ocean Chef

Does anyone have a view on the quality of the frozen fish for these two brands from Coles and Woolworths respectively? Does anyone have any industry insight? For example, if they have the same supplier and are of the same quality, then price should be the only decision criterion. Also, do you have any safety concerns?

The Ocean Selections is Birds Eye's brand and sells for more than the Ocean Chef, being a more established brand.

The salmon come from Norway and is processed in Poland, the tuna processed Vietnam, and some fish are processed in China and Indonesia.

The Ocean Chef has far more 50% off deals than the Ocean Selections. Both are on sale this week at Coles and Woolworths (Wednesday onwards).

  • the birds eye salmon used to be nz salmon, but now it is norway. so they are both as bad as one another in my opinion.

also, birds eye is not too keen on publishing the omega-3 content of their fish products, which makes me suspicious of them.

  • Salmon - Selections - tastier than Chef.
Snapper - Chef - horrible. DO NOT BUY IT.
    Hoki - Chef - tasteless.

  • the ocean chef salmon is not on sale according to woolworths online.

another thing to take into consideration is that ocean chef packets are 1kg vs 700g for ocean selections

Also, do you have any safety concerns?

yes, all farmed fish is going to be contaminated with pcbs. also google for farmed norwegian salmon. i'm not trying to scare monger. pcbs are also in chicken, cows, etc. you should be fine if you only eat it occassionally.
