Aldi sells iPhone 5c 8GB for $410 AUD (297 Euro) in Austria from 19 March 2015

Aldi will sell the iPhone 5c in Austria for about 297 Euro (about $410 AUD) from 19 March 2015.

While it is sold in connection with a sim card of the mobile phone provider Hot there is no minimum contract period and the iPhone is sold unlocked.

Will Aldi follow suit in Australia given the fact that the iPhone 5c does not sell well in Australia?

Is this the end of Apple high pricing?

What do you think?

"Is this the end of Apple high pricing?"
Clearly not as $419 is still way too much for it and 8gb is stupidly small for a not expandable mobile phone.

  • While I agree with you that the price is still too much this is not the question.
In fact, all Apple products are ridiculously overpriced if one compares other manufacturers' prices and offers.
However, given the fact that Apple deemed it necessary to increase prices recently, could this development in Europe spill over to Oz where Apple loses its pricing dominance and power?

I hope so as that will mean lower prices for consumers as certainly other brands will also lower prices.

the 32GB 5c was $399.00 at JB Hifi and Telstra, Christmas last year.

    I don't consider 2 generations old phone @ $410 cheap.

  • Not much of a market for the 5c at $400. Certainly not the 8GB version.

  • Eight? What? Just ask anyway with 16gb iPhone all complaint can't store more photos.. And you want to get 8gb… New to Apple world, OP?

  • $410 AUD - you could buy an awesome android phone for half that amount

  • Just to clarify:

Not new to Apple rip-off. Would never and have never bought Apple as I don't like walled garden systems as they offer no advantages these days.
I agree with altomic - even at $100 one can buy a better phone and with $300+ one can buy a phone better than the current gen Apple phones, at least for what 99.9% of the people use their phones for.
I do consider Apple just an over-glorified company and hence would love to see it lose its rip-off dominance.

@erwinsie: I use what a phone was originally made for. Not for gaming etc. For me even 1GB is enough. For playing I would prefer a console, PC, and DS/Vita - doing that on a phone is way to tedious for me.
