Spintel SIM swap at Optus?

Can you go into an Optus store & swap a SIM (eg micro to nano) that uses an Optus reseller?

    No
Cut your simcard yourself i did it with my Boost mobile micro sim.

    • Cool, does that mean I can't use it in my nexus 5 anymore though or will it still fit with the cut out?

Just get one of those adapters which will allow the nano sim to work in micro and standard sim card phones.

  • Nice idea though. They should charge full price for the SIM though. I'm sure the MVNOs would prefer that doesn't happen and its really for your and their protection that carrier retail staff can't mess with the accounts of a competitor. On the other hand the barriers between the carrier owned MVNOs and the MNOs are dumb.
I'm talking about Boost/Telstra and Virgin/Optus. The stupid banks do the same things with their Internet brands which annoys the %$&* out of me.

  • No, you would need to get another one sent out. You can order the new SIM card over the phone or online through My Account.

    • Can you do that for free? Thanks

    • I called SpinTel yesterday, found out that it costs $20 for SIM activation and $5 postage, total of $25…..
Absolutely ridiculous, all I want is a nanosim….this shit should be free

Back when I was on vodafone I just walked in, asked for a new sim and they gave me a new one in 2 seconds, all done

      • Lowering the SIM cost would likely mean more expensive services. It's definitely a turn off though. I wonder if those levels of charges accurately reflect costs. For $5 I'd want registered priority post.

      • Wow that is ridiculous. That is the problem with these online carriers. The deals look good but then there are all these restrictions (like using 3G is capped before your allowance) and extra charges that come up like this for example.

Just go to a optus store not a reseller as a reseller won't be able to do the sim transfer. Just to be clear by reseller I mean newsagent, coles, wollies etc that sells prepaid packs. If you go somewhere that can do contracts as they will have access to Optus's system and can issue a new sim…

    • awesome, thanks! I'll try this tomorrow & let you know how I go.

Hi I misread your question. I thought you meant get a new optus sim at a optus reseller like coles or a newsagent. What you meant was a new sim from a operator who uses the optus network right? If so contact Spintel here: https://www.spintel.net.au/contact

Apologies for the confusion and thanks to kwv42 for pointing that out.

        • Thanks for this :-)

    • I just thought if you got the sim from say Spintel you only can get a new nano from them and not Optus or even their resellers like Woolworths or Coles?

As even those Spintel uses Optus networks, they are two separate companies.

Or even those Virgin is owned by Optus, you can't go into a Optus store to get a new Virgin nano sim.
