Finding phone for under $300

I am trying to get a new mobile for my wife, with the following goals:

Under $300
Android
at least 4.5' screen
Camera 5+ MP
Unlocked or unlockable (We use Optus network at home, but travel overseas regularly)

So far the Moto G stands out as a winner, but am open to suggestions. I was hoping for big sales after the Samsung S6 came out, but it seems only Windows Phones have been discounted.

    ASUS Zenfone 2?

    • Looks awesome… any idea about release date?

There are a couple of Taiwanese eBay shops selling it right now around 330-ish for the 16 GB version. Not sure about it's 3G and 4G frequency compatibilities with those of Australia though.

The two countries have pretty much the same frequencies except no 850mhz 3G 4G in TW, but I think they included 850 3G. So I guess the only one it's lacking is the 850 4G that Vodafone will use soon.
EDIT: After looking at the full specs it does have 850 4G as well, so the phone will work very well in Australia. Except the Optus TDD 2300 4G, which is still not supported by most phones so that's not a surprise, at least all other frequencies like 700, 1800(especially this one), 2100 will work.

Eh, if you are comfortable with Ebay, HK sellers and waiting time: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/a/281479622129
    AU $290 - 5.2" NEW LG G2 D800 - 4G LTE Quad-core 13MP 32GB - Black (Unlocked) Mobile Phone

  • I am also in the market for this kind of price range. I think the HTC M7 would be ideal at that $300ish price - but most places don't seem to have any stock?

  • Thanks everyone. Ended up getting Moto G 2nd Gen for $236 at OW after getting them to Price Beat the Good Guys. Going overseas too, so will only come to $215 after TRS.
