ACCC Ruled DealsDirect's Restricted Warranties Breach Trade Practices Act

ACCC has investigated DealDirect's warranty policy and has determined that some of its clauses breach the Trade Practices Act.

"30 days only" warranties breach the act.

There are a lot of other online stores that offer "limited" and "restricted" warranties and charge extra for a decent warranty. I hope this ruling will be a trendsetter.

Good to hear ACCC is doing something. :)

  • I guess Deals Direct was targeted because they are big (claiming to be #1 online store in Australia). At the same time I can see plenty of smaller online retailers doing these 30 day warranty stuff.

I was looking at a camera on TopBuy today. Warranty? 30 days.

    • Well given the action on DD I would guess other online retailers are under same obligation, just at present flying under the ACCC's radar, which has always been set high unless of cause someone rats on the retailer, like a disadvantaged customer.

  • Thanks surm - information like this is very valuable for us bargain hunters to know
