Looking for an Single Air Bed to Use Indoor for Sleepovers

Hello guys, I need help with finding an single air bed to use indoor for sleepovers.

I might have someone coming over to my place throughout the year but my room has no adequate space for another mattrice so I was thinking about getting an air bed.
I don't require anything fancy, I just want to get something sturdy under $30 (preferably). Something that will last over a year. Since I am in ACT, I guess my choices of stores are limited in that regards.

I've seen the new newsletter by Aldi and they were selling an single air bed with a built-in pump for $40, but I don't need a built in pump, so I thought I might be able to find something cheaper.

So could you guys recommend me an air bed?

Hinterland single air bed $12 from Big W. Not exactly sturdy, but good enough for occasional use. If punctured, can always return it back to bigw for exchange.

    • My father in law has been sleeping in on one of these in the spare room for the last 6 weeks and says it is great

    $12. http://www.kmart.com.au/product/jackeroo-flocked-single-air-…

I'm sure I got a single mattress with inbuilt manual pump from Aldi for about $20 a year or so ago. Unfortunately the current one looks like it is a powered air pump, and more expensive.

    • you would want a powered pump….

      • The manual ones have an internal foot pump. A dozen pumps and you're good to go. Not hard or tiring at all. Powered pump not necessary.

        • Agreed. Manual pump would suffice for a single or double bed

The $12 ones from BigW or Kmart are fine for occasional use. We go camping with a bunch of other families quite regularly, and there is no correlation between price and sturdiness. The more expensive Coleman or other brands get leaks at the same rate as the cheap ones.
The only better option I would consider is a self inflating mat (the thicker ones are called 4WD mats). These combine soft foam and inflation to give a better experience, at least if you get a thick one. But they take up more storage space and cost substantially more.
    This is an example: http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Oztrail-Self-Inf…

That one is 8cm thick. I would look for a 10cm thick on if I was buying one.

I got the kmart air bed and the manual air pump. Think I paid $15 all up.

But really air beds are not very nice to sleep on, they make a squeaky sound when you turn. If you have carpet, I would recommend you going to the asian shops and buying those thin mattress they have, where you can easy fold and store them away. I usually use that, put a quilt on top of the mattress, so the guests can sleep on top of the quilt and mattress. Quite soft and comfortable.

    • That sounds nice, do you have any recommendations on thin mattress? Also, how much are they?

    • I find them comfortable enough, and I am a big boy. Never had one squeak, perhaps the old vinyl ones you toss in the pool did, but these ones are flocked (like a velour finish). Having a real mattress (like the ones they use in a folding bed) to put over an inflatable mattress is a bit redundant. Also the OP mentioned there was no spare space for storage of a foam mattress. What I find best is to only inflate it to about 80% then have the subject lie on it. It should be inflated just enough so you are elevated and you can't feel the floor through it, but not so much that it feels very hard. When you lie on it and sink into it, it will firm up and feel like you are floating on water, part under the surface and supported on the bottom and a bit on the sides. I still have a waterbed and the sensation is very similar. You can inflate or deflate a little to suit your preference.

  • Kmart $12 for the single. You might also need the $8 foot pump as well.
