Flushable wipes are not so flushable

We've seen the deals and though, what a great way to wipe my ass
Deals such as this to get us hooked- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109370

I fell into the clutches of flushable wipes with a free sample and have been using them since.
However, recent studies and articles are showing that these wipes say they are dispoable down the toilet however they are not breaking up in the water as fast as is required to avoid blockages.
This leads to extra servicing work and eventually to higher service costs on all our bills

Some articles, detailing its effects in 3 different states:

and a report from WSAA - The Water Services Association of Australia

Just thought I'd put it out there for anyone who cares as this deal was super popular when released and I can imagine many people have continued to use them, under the impression that it was safe for the sewers.

Comments

  • Don't they actually say on the wipes' packaging not to use any more than one or two wipes per session? At least, that's what I remember…

EDIT: YIKES, scratch that last comment… just took a look at the articles… a whole lot of folks using 1-2 at a time is still a WHOLE lot of wipes apparently…

  • +1

And with the low-flow toilets we use nowadays there's not a lot of water pressure pushing them through the system.

  • Time to whip out the bidet.

    • Haha. A bidet is weird. We had them were I was born and I still don't like them.

I'm going to try just using water on ordinary toilet paper as a substitute for these wipes.

      • I don't get how people use them without toilet paper to dry themselves afterwards.

        How do you… without TP?

        Otherwise they are pretty great.

        • much of the world doesnt use TP and rely on a hose.

    • I'm going to get hold of a Japanese style bidet toilet seat. Those things rock. They even have air blowers

  • My plumber said as he had to eel out the drains, "you can flush 'em, but they ain't going no where"
