Need a Mouse (Can Be Wired or Wireless, but if Wireless Prefer USB Charging over Batteries)

In case anyone sees this. I need a cheap but hopefully reliable mouse (can be wired or wireless, but if it is wireless I need some usb to [micro/mini/etc]-usb charging, basically I don't want to waste some more time and money on some batteries/eneloops) hopefully for under $20 or $10 or $15 if you can do it.

Basically to cut it short my old one has been showing some wire fraying at the usb connection end and I don't have the necessary tools on hand to fix it (if anyone knows of some electrically conductive gel or glue to fix it that I have not heard of, please do share it and but buying a brand new soldering iron and some solder to try and repair a $10 job is completely out of the question haha.. I just need a new laptop and pc mouse haha, plus I might screw it up.. didn't do too well in electronics back in highschool lol :P).

So yeah if anybody has any ideas or know of some good places currently right now selling some good cheap mices.. give me a holler/call! (or just reply to this message haha.. :P)

Thank you.

edit: does not/I am not looking for a gaming mouse.. just your run of the mill standard web browsing and email mouse so no new or extra features need to be added. just your standard left and right mouse buttons and maybe scroll wheel haha if possible. lol

No can do, most cheap basic wireless mice will not have a USB charging port like some high end ones do, like my M950 Logitech Performance mouse.

For that kind of feature, you're looking at high-end prices of more than $60.

There are 3 other mice that I know of that has a charging capability (i.e. you stick it in a dock to recharge)
    Razer Mamba 4G
SteelSeries World of Warcraft Wireless MMO Mouse
    Gigabyte Aivia M8600 V2

And Logitech M950 and the G700 / G700s have MicroUSB connections that let you use the mouse in wired mode and charge at the same time.

Sadly you gotta pay $$$ for these :(

I'd go with a cheap Logitech mouse — most of them boast long battery lives of around 5 to 6 months on a regular AA battery meaning you'd only change the battery at most twice a year. The M280 boasts 18 months and it costs $27 from UMART (ro $29 from Officeworks)

    • M950 doesn't work without the USB dongle though. (As far as I can see)

      • Yes, you gotta leave the dongle in the computer. The Micro USB port of the M950 does not carry data.

The G700 and G700s does, however, reviews say that the mouse becomes heavier when the USB cable is plugged in, so it is not exactly pleasing to use or game with.

        • I was actually expecting it to work with the only USB connection. Though I have to say, the mouse is amazing (I am glad I got it second hand)

        • I have the G700s. have had it about a year, it is practically worn out already. Buttons are also starting to double click (a common problem). Also software glitches. It is a decent mouse, just not polished. Yes, very stiff USB cable. Love the side buttons though. Very handy.

Some people say it is big, but I find it isn't big enough (unless one has petite girl hands). Probably going back to find an old-school ergonomic microsoft mouse (the ones that look like they were designed by an alien)

        • @Son ofa Zombie:

          designed by an alien

          :)

  • Nice I would be maybe willing to shell out $60+ if one of those mices could do the usb charging feature.. out of the three (or was it four or five haha man I lost count lol) you mentioned which one has the most features or looks to have the most solid design?

Basically which would you recommend for long life lasting. I want these $60+ to last haha.

    • I got my M950 from LogitechShop on one of their special deals. They don't seem to post on Ozbargain that often anymore though.

It has quite a large number of buttons, multi-DPI switching and frictionless scroll wheel. Expected usage is about 3 weeks before needing a recharge. Doesn't take long to recharge if you plug it into a smartphone charger but it has it's own charger, and an accessories bag containing cables and such.

Take note the mouse is not symmetrical and cannot be used left handed. It's quite large and will be suitable if you have bigger hand.

The M950 comes with 1 single eneloop battery. Dunno about the others — will have to read reviews.

      • Damn hehe yeah I noticed that. Out of the few extra feature one's that you mentioned does any of your friends use any of them or can attest to it's/their greatness? currently I am now looking at the last one you linked me the M280.. looks great and $29.95 from OW is not too bad.. I think I should have one fairly near, fairly local.

Btw if I wanted to step down in price from the M950 Logitech Performance Mouse, which one would I pick.. all I really need at this point is maybe the usb charging capability/facility.

Wow just did a search and office works and others check.. we really do not have any available for retail usb charging mouses/mices here in Australia. What the heck is up with that.. like seriously it is 2015. And I am not talking about the $120+ M950 lol…

Time to go to amazon.. or ebay.. haha

  • Ermm.. Razer Orochi? Can be both wireless and wired. Having said that it does need batteries and I'm not sure if they are charged when it's plugged in? Sorry missed the budget constraint. Believe these are over $50

    • That looks good. The older variant of the mouse couldn't be recharged via USB, but looks like the 2013 version can.

Actually, I take that back. Orochi is rated for 30 hrs. battery life for continuous use and it uses Bluetooth. That's comically bad. Avoid it at all costs.

  • Damn back to the drawing board looks like maybe a hopeful flash bargain on a M950 or someone generous on craigslist or gumtree or ebay haha… otherwise it's looking like the M280 for me :( (although I do hate having to constantly keep using batteries for its usage gah).

Still can't believe nobody has yet made a cheaper option for this kind of mouse yet.. especially for the non-gamers.. haha.. because that would be a huge major oversight imo.

  • Just bought a cheapo Logitech wireless for $19 at JB hi fi. claimed battery life is 12 months on one AA battery. Has an on/off switch to further conserve battery power. Even if it's only 6 months that's not a big ask for changing batteries.

M8 I use the ebay wireless for $4-50 takes 2 AAA .. lasts 6 months, as it turns itself off after about 90secs,
just left click to re use >>> here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-4GHz-Cordless-Wireless-Optical-…

  • Get a bluetooth mouse so you don't have to worry about that usb dongle which is a pain. I use this HP mouse and it works great. Turns itself off when not using. Change the battery once every 6 months. Under $30. HPX4000b

  • Why limit yourself to USB charging? Most mice these days last at least a few months on one or two cells. Just use Eneloops and keep some charged on hand when they need a fresh set.

If you get a mouse that has an embedded battery, it is likely you'll need a whole new mouse in a few years due to the battery not holding a charge anymore.

The battery is usually the thing that fails first if you don't abuse the mouse.

  • Thanks for all the replies guys. Really some great great feedback in here. Hmm general consensus seems to go with the battery route so I might just now go ahead and do that. I only chose usb because well from my experiences with my phone and ps3 controllers etc usb charging instead of b82rez is much much easier and maybe even probably cheaper. But with the now new thought of maybe the in-built battery breaking down maybe going the easier hot-swappable battery route is better.

  • Now all I need are some dirt cheap b82rez… haha lol.
