Foxtel IQ3 Has Launched

First announced over 3 years ago, sounds like a nice rip off to me!

From TV Tonight

Foxtel’s long awaited iQ3 has been officially launched, bringing viewers more storage space, the ability to record 3 shows at once and watch a fourth live, handy ‘Start Over’ and ‘Look Back’ functions to rewind on shows you missed, wifi connectivity, and a sleek interface.

Foxtel is now taking orders from new and existing customers, with a hardware roll-out due to get underway.

Pricing is set at $125* plus $25* for a self-installation kit; or $125* plus $75* for installation by a Foxtel technician (Self-install details see below). New customers will pay a minimum of $450 with the Entertainment package for 12 months, or $500 for a standard install on the same package.

The 1 terrabyte storage allows for up to 172 hours of HD recording (up from IQ2’s 30 hours) or up to 345 hours of SD recording (up from 90 hours).

The Start Over feature enables viewers who have tuned in late to go back to the start of a show (in SD playback) while the Look Back allows viewers to scroll back on up to 24 hours of TV shows.

A sleek new interface offers Suggested programs based on viewing patterns, Trending programs, and curated Highlights.

  • Terrible price, especially for the "self installation" (so I'm paying them to do the work myself?). The ability to record 3 shows at once sounds good, however is there ever 3 shows on at the same time work recording? I'll be giving it a miss, and cant see how its any sort of competition for Netflix (which News limited seem to be claiming).

    • The $25 fee is basically for delivery.

      • You can also pick up ay foxtel booths in major shopping centers however still have to pay the $25

Is "IQ3" the level of customer its aimed at?

I dont understand why Foxtel dont start fighting fire with fire. Add an included service that offers on demand TV shows, if they took their entire collect of shows across all their channels, pop it into an ondemand interface in HD, boom winner. Only reason I keep Foxtel is because of the live sports, but once a cheaper alternative for those shows its face and I out quick fast and in a hurry.

    • …. They have that. Only problem is almost all the channels are independently owned and only allow them to broadcast certain content each month.
