Reasonable quality but cheap 18650s batteries

prefer protected but the reality is i'm using them in sub $10 china crees so i dont think protected is all that necessary

but i would like good shelf like and good cycle life

Ummm.. You do not put unprotected cells in a multi-cell light. I don't know how you're going to use them, but it's generally a better idea to use protected cells when using them in a device that does not have a protection circuit. The protection PCB on the cell shuts the power off in the event of overcharging, over discharge, overheating or short circuiting.

You can buy genuine Samsung, Panasonic and LG ones from Fasttech.

    • None available, I always buy trust fire 3000mah batteries from tom top on eBay.

      • I have a few trustfires and I don't think they stack up as well as the genuine branded stuff — they claim it to be '3000mah' but in reality could be around 2000mah.

I paid $10 AUD for some TrustFires and $15 AUD for my LG's — I think the LG's are worth the coin. Trustfires seem like a ripoff in comparison.

    • Not to burst your bubble, but apparently they were protected Comment #14

For me, I use cells I got from a broken laptop battery, and they work quite well
