Who Pays for The Retention of The Data?

Just wondered if bills will rise, and if this is an issue Labor haven't concerned themselves with?

I think this Data Retention Bill news absolutely sucks. The greatest irony of all is all these Internet Companies have reaped millions from copywritten material and they will get NONE of their privacy violated. I swear the kinds of idiots calling up ABC Radio to parrot talk of ISIS fears as a motivator, make me rage.

    The customer will pay.

Notice how NOBODY in the media say they don't want it. The only discussion is about the (excessive) cost. There is budget cuts everywhere, yet for data retention, it is like it is absolutely essential that it happens - at any price.

And yet most of the communication on the internet will not be covered - Facebook, Skype, all those messenger programs - none of those will be logged. So it just targets all the people who are actually innocent, and those who do want to circumvent the data retention can just get around it as easily as can be. What a joke.
