Try chemist for off shelf about 20$. My eye specialist suggested this for me, reading and some driving. Large focal size. It holds one over working OK and not needing to increase font. Goodluck. You may get some at overflow stores but. .??

  • Can't- I have to have script to work- but thank you so much for writing….

    Anyone else have glasses recently?

    Ta!

  • Big W just made a pair up for me, haven't picked them up yet, but the staff were helpful, and the price was cheap. (Under $100)

  • You got health insurance?

  • No health Insurance, no…only as advice my tax people. I have no idea? I mean, I had less than 16000 last yr.

    Anyone who can address this?

  • help?

    • You need to provide more information.

What is your script? What kind of lenses did you have (e.g. single vision/bifocal/multifocal)? Is price important?

Unlike the UK, the vast majority of places cut/grind and fit their lenses off site, so you might be out of luck if you need them quickly.

  • OK. More than one issue here.
    I. Urgent glasses
    2 cash flow
    3. Health fund.

    1. Some providers such as opsm may make the glasses up the same day. It will be cost effective if you just have basic lenses is no multi focal super thin glass extra tinting ( do not skimp on safety protection for UV front and back. Frames and eye/script check are the money catchers for them.
2 and 3. Cash flow is always a issue for most of us. Even if you are in the right side of the wealth/income bell curve it should be as sh** or unfortunate events happens . I want to have control over some of my health choices and costs and timing. I do not want to be on the waiting list to get on the waiting list for specialist treatment. Whilst not a real good example, did a skin check with gp, then a referral to dermatologist, issue was nothing but found something, a week later had seen surgeon and then operated on to remove and repair ear. Two weeks in full to have a smaller ear , no public waiting, no risk of getting worse, reconstruction surgery rather than a nick in the ear which I didn't care if happen. Had a small out of pocket expenses the fund and medicare paid the rest. Yes I know public would eventually do the similar but by that system the 5 year measure %'s may have changed.

Not living in WA have no idea of health funds, their services or costs nor have heard reports of the effectivness of health services. Notwithstanding that I would not do without health insurance with hospital and extra cover. I can lower the cost by co-payment for hospital admission and in Qld there is no ambulance cost. My fund costs will rise on 1/4/2015 and rant rant, this would be a seperat issue. BUT don't do or do something for tax benifet F**k tax benifet strategies as tax rules change and sometimes retrospectively. You do things like health funds for your own good/protection. There are many forum discussion in Oz B. on this matter and may be worth revisiting after you can see.

Good luck with specs open phone book yellow pages googled your local and ring around as it may be time worth spent.

, I would tread carefully with big w glasses from my own experiences x 3 family members ( have had an offer of replacement frames but not in writing as promised). Look up whirlpool.

  • Specsavers does glasses from $39. The $39 frames are nothing to write home about, but they're perfectly ok

  • I have an astigmatism in one eye. The last two pairs were not covered at all by Medicare— I will need to pay it all.

Based on feedback here & elsewhere, I bought a pair online, from Goggles4U & it was a disaster! First pair they sent were completely wrong. The next pair the bottom half were ok (but too small) of bifocals, the top half had clear glass, no script applied…I had a back & forth with them & gave up after they sent the 2nd pair- also incorrect. Sigh…at the time, I still had a good pair so it was quite obvious how far off these were.

Then, I went to Specsavers & coughed up the cash. This script did away with the bifocal & was adjusted differently- they work well. I'm tossing up trying another online place & waiting it out vs. hundreds of dollars in AU.

RE: the $39 frames- I'm not craziy fussed on looks, but I do need a solid, plastic earpiece & that alone kills my selection (by the time I get the rest of the physical dimensions correct).

I may just go by there anyway & see what they have since last time.

    Thanks everyone. 8)
