Dick Smith Did It Again (Price Change during Sundays Special)

So basically I want to point it at price change during the "20% off Tech at Selected Retailers @ eBay" from Dick Smith

When it started today, i looked at 3 products that I was interested in and the prices was:

Logitech F710 Wireless GamePad from AU $36.32 to AU $48.11
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-F710-Wireless-GamePad-/2…

Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse from AU $47.17 to AU $62.48
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-G602-Wireless-Gaming-Mou…

Logitech G700s Gaming Mouse from AU $69.13 to AU $93.73
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Logitech-G700s-Gaming-Mouse-/2717…

So the prices before raise, with applied 20% off was more than tempting, but after not even a bargain.

  • i'm sure it was more than this 3 deals that changed pricing during Sundays Special.

Conclusion:

Shame on you Dickie Smith!!!

Edit:

FitBit products changed prices as well…

and

Sony SRS-X5 from AU $215.05 to AU $279.00

Sony SRS-X3 from AU $99.31 to AU $198.00

The incorrect prices were genuine errors due to a technical error in their database. They took immediate action to rectify the issue once the incorrect pricing issue was discovered.

They reject any allegation that the pricing error was an attempt by Dick Smith to inflate prices prior to the commencement of a promotion.

They have taken steps to review their systems to ensure that such errors are avoided in future.

Lol are you trying to make a joke?

Sorry, i don't mean to take credit for Dick Smith's jokes

        • Those damn database errors, Happening every sale!

        • +1

Ooh yes :) Technical errors.. and they call themselves the experts!

        • +1

@botftw: their store staff are absolutely brain dead idiots, dont bother asking them any technical questions.

        • Bullshit…

That's fine for a one time thing, but almost every single sale the prices just increase. I guess they can afford decent lawyers.

Next time there is a sale coming up someone needs to screenshot the item and then on the day of the sale screenshot it again.

        • I guess the reps name responding to that letter is also a technical error

Went from $41 (I was one of the 4 sold) to $79.90! Luckily I got mine before Dick dicked the dick in the dick

so it was cheaper earlier during the day. was there a reason you didnt get it then?

i watched a few items and they actually decreased in price, then increased later on but i kept to the ozb code "buy now, think later", so i got it during the decrease.

hopefully for you, they come back down later during the week, but seems to me that this is classic you snooze you lose. you had every opportunity to buy it earlier in the day and you didnt.

I don't really understand people posting that they snoozed and losed. So the complaint is I was able to buy it cheaper but decided not to?

      • +1

No, the complaint is that Dick Smith constistently increase their prices during eBay "sales" such that they are no cheaper at this time than normal.

It is fundamentally dishonest, and when called on it in the past they have claimed system errors

But this time yesterday, isn't it the case they were running a sale that was due to finish Saturday, but the sale prices actually extended into Sunday allowing people to get the ebay 20% as well?
Would you have preferred the sale to finish on time so the lower price was not available?
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I don't understand the complaint this time. From my observation they did not increase their prices prior to the ebay sale starting, and the claims of a system error were from last year.

It was just straight up weird what Dick.S did today… it simply can't have been intentional methinks, cause it was so 'random' and guaranteed to provoke angst/anger in many consumers. I'm referring to starting the day with the low sale prices still active and able to be further reduced by the "CTECH20" code (examples, the variable transformer that could be bought for about $5 at the start of the day, and the various varieties of ENELOOPs that could also be bought at dramatically reduced prices), but then at some random point in the arvo reverting back to the way bigger (often orders of magnitude bigger) "pre-sale" prices… Many peeps of course had loaded carts when the 'price-switcheroo' was pulled, and of course that meant they'd wasted a LOT of time contemplating/compiling a 'cart' that then became irrelevant/ was essentially cancelled.

It sounds kinda' silly, but what I reckon might have happened is some idiot at Dick.S messed up their "AM vs. PM". So maybe the sale prices were meant to switch over at some point in the wee early hours of the morning of 29mar2015 to the "normal" prices, at the same time as the CTECH20 became active; but due to a screw up the CTECH20 code became active at the correct time, but Dick.S pricing switch was a full 12 hours late; not happening until the early afternoon?

If that is actually what happened, then those of us who successfully put in our purchases early/before the price switch got really lucky; we 'stacked' the CTECH20 code with the sale prices, which I suspect was an offer Dick.S was not intending to make…

I agree they probably didn't intentionally keep the sale prices after the posted expiry. Those who bought with the extra 20% got some good deals.
I think it is cheeky to raise prices ahead of a sale like the ebay 20% off, but I'm not that fussed that they raised them after people had most of the day at very good prices. If they don't honour the purchased prices, that would be worthy of a complaint.

I bought a ps4 control before the price increase and conveniently my money was refunded because of some bullshit out of stock. Price is conveniently $10 more now and in stock again! DSE are a bunch of clowns!
