Yay just booked Easter flights - the only time I can get off. Fantastic deal! heaps cheaper than virgin or jetstar although you do pay for the quality… Public holiday availability, get in quick!

  • Be very, very wary of Tiger! I had to pick up some relatives that got stitched up by them on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney recently! Luckily I hadn't left for the airport yet when the farce began & they called, or I'd have been shirty myself! ;)

They told me there were something like 400 people waiting at that shipping container they call a terminal in Melbourne, some from a previous cancelled flight, only to have their flight cancelled too! It was the usual shambles, arguments, screaming, crying etc apparently whilst the staff were busy handing out refund vouchers!

All well and good to get their $29 flight refunded, but not so great when the relos all had to pay $179 for seats on another carrier home! They were offered the option of a flight the next day, but as they all had to work the following day, this offer; on a Sunday night; was ludicrous! :?

Let me tell you, they were not singing the praises of Tiger when they got in the car, I can assure you! ;)

    • Tiger terminals are least convenience out of all the budget airlines in Australia. Their in flight hot food are also terrible with instant noodles as the only option on the menu. Once you get over that, it's not bad cause their sale fares are actually available during holiday periods.

All airlines have cancellations so it's not exclusive to Tiger. I don't think their track records are any worse than the competition. When the prices are not much different, my top choice would be AirAsia.

    • theres no need to actually fly tiger. just use their prices for jetstar's 10% price beat guarantee.

    • Nothing new about tiger cancle/delay flights as I'd told you guys all along… dig up old postS and you will see but can't believe some rate them as the most on time airline…. Wondering how much Tiger paid them!?

I don't know how anyone could fly tiger after seeing that airlines show on channel 7.

    Jetstar - fine
    Virgin - fine
    Qantas - fine

    Tiger - bad!

  • Thanks for the heads up Skystar!

  • isn't the typical attitude to taking Tiger that if you pay so little, you can't really complain?

    • Passengers pay so little because they don't pay for food, comfy seats, comfy departure longues or for other frills. They only pay to get from A to B. That is the only thing passengers expect from Tiger and Tiger is known to let passenger down more often that not. Flight delays and cancellations are unavodiable, what matters is how the airline compensates its passengers after that. Tiger Austraia has ony 7 planes, so they have no back ups and delays in one sector cascades into others and even may cause cancellations. (Eg. Bad weather in Hobart may result in a cancellation of a subsequent Adelaide-Sydney flight.) Virgin or Quantas can put you in the next available flight which would be a few hours delay most. With Tiger, it would be a few days. Tiger has no additional crew at certain airports, so if a staff member falls sick, the flight will be cancelled, as was the case with recent cancellation of Hobart-Adelaide flight.

On the other hand, Tiger's existence creates competition and keeps the prices down, especially since Jetstar beats Tiger's prices.

Horses for courses - if you have a time issue - ie need to be back on a certain day - I guess tiger isnt the way to go. Agree with Stewballs , compare the saving you make to the cost that you have to pay when things go wrong. A bit like no name insurance, ok when no claim is made.
