Best Scenic Spots Accessible by Bicycle in Melbourne

I'm an avid cyclist and love to explore new places every weekend. I'm especially interested in exploring scenic spots accessible by a bike and am reaching out to see if anyone else have their favourite spot they'd like to share in Melbourne - pics and location would be an added plus!

I'll start.

I'm sure there are many more out there! Any sharers?

"Mount" Cooper, in Bundoora is worth a look if you're in the area. It's not really a mountain, but it is the highest point in inner metropolitan Melbourne. It's an extremely easy and quick ride to the top; even for kids. It's 137 m above sea-level, and affords some nice views, especially on a nice clear day, or at sunset/sunrise.

  • "Greenvale Reservoir/Park" is worth a look, again you'd have to be in the (Roxburgh) area though; it's not exactly near the city. Massive body of water that you'd hardly know was there, unless you enter the park/get up higher than the level of the surrounding roads…

  • "Laughing Waters" in Warrandyte is a really great spot, but re your brief, you would have to walk the last couple of hundred metres to the river. It's well worth a visit though, and as long as it hasn't just rained the day before, it's quite 'swimmable'.

    • Somehow the coordinates given by the website land me in the middle of the Pacific ocean haha

      • Chuckle, you'd nae be laughing if you suddenly found yourself in those waters…

  • (Sorry no pics).

For some reason I like stopping on the overpass of Eastlink and watching the cars.

Also try Yarra Blvd lookout just south of Yarra Bend. A bit winding, and car heavy at times though.

For the hipsters: Green Park for overpriced coffee/food/bike service

  • Thanks for the ideas so far. I'll check them out and post back if I go! :)

  • If you ride along the eastern freeway trail there are a couple of overpasses with some very nice views of the city.

  • Dandenongs. I live in Berwick and often ride with a bunch up from Beaconsfield to Gembrook (coffee and cookie at the Gembrook Bakery!!) then back via any number of different routes. There are loads of places at the side of the road where the view is breathtaking!
