  • Haven't done Medibank, but there is a similar thing called the global corporate challenge. I averaged 16k steps for the month or two it ran.

I have eased off a bit since, but still routinely beat 10k, and have done for several years now. My tips for when I was doing 16k:

    • use public transport to get to work. I live and work close to the station, but it still means 5k steps that I wouldn't get driving.
    • go for a walk at lunch.
    • whenever you need to get something from the shop (out of milk, or need an ingredient for dinner) walk if you can.
    • use a pedometer/fitbit to track your steps visibly, so you can check how you are going and if you need to do more.
  • Well I made sure that I did the 10,000 steps per day - mind you there were a couple of late evening walks around the block to get me over the line a couple of nights but on the whole I managed without too much trouble. I consciously park the furtherest from the shopping centre and even from the gym when I go. I walk around to the back door and enter and leave that way. It is not too hard to incorporate these changes into your life and I have found a good weight loss benefit as well. I have not had my email yet confirming the $100 though
