Is anybody excited about Microsoft Surface 3 announcement?

Well, the information is for US, so I am not sure whether it will be released in Australia (highly likely I assume though), nor the price, but I think it's interesting enough. It's cherry trail Surface, with Windows 8.1.

Microsoft will sell four models of the Surface (USD)

2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for $499
4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage for $599
2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and LTE support for $599
4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage with LTE support for $699.

It will be using Intel Quad-core Atom x7 processor running at 1.6GHz. The tablet is 8.7 mm thick and just 1.37 pounds.
It also has an 8MP rear camera and a 3.5MP front facing camera. The battery life is supposed to last up to 10 hours. Also it is with Windows 8.1 (Not RT)

Also the accessories that are being released along with it include, type cover, dock station and a pen.

  • If this is x86, I will consider it

    • It's with Windows 8.1. :)
It would be like Windows Tablets out there right now with Atom Bay trail CPU (but instead Quad-core Intel Atom™ x7, Cherry Trail)

    RIP Windows RT.

    • RIP Windows RT. WIntel was too much for you to handle.

Windows RunTime actually ran out of time.

No actual funeral or wake to be held.

        • Basis for the neg, person who did?

RT does stand for Runtime, in case you were unaware…

and just who is going to actually lament the demise of an operating system with restrictions - with those no longer required/dictated by Microsoft's original processor choice/dodgy Surface marketing strategy?

Maybe you're just unhappy that you're RT device has been so keenly outpaced by all of the cheap full-Windows tabs coming out of China (and enthusiastically posted as deals on OzBargain)?

I was excited until I saw the Australian prices. Add the cost of accessories on top of that and it's a lot for not that much power.

    • Same. I wrote it before going onto MS Australia. I was actually thinking about selling my Tab Pro (3 weeks old) for it.
Now I am thinking about waiting for a price drop (or a student discount even).

In terms of CPU, I've heard that it hasn't improve much from Baytrail, so I am slightly put off by that :S

About $300 more to get the proper Pro version with an i5 and 12" high res screen. If you are already at that price point, the answer seems pretty obvious.

      • Yeah, true that. Though be fair, it's just being released, SP3 has an official price tag of AU$979 for i3, 64GB.
I hope to see some discounts on it, the price is not too unreasonable given that it's the official price at release date IMO.

    • it's a lot for not that much power.

The Australian dollar is going down, so be prepared to pay more than you are used to.

But yeah check out the prices for the accessories! Surely anyone who buys this will also want a keyboard. It should be part of the package.

  • with those prices no bloody way.

Was excited when I saw the "$499" price tag for the lowest end device.

Then got erectile dysfunction when I read the starting Aussie price $699.00

I'd rather spend $950 (After cashback) and get the SP3…

    • Where did you find it for $950 (after cashback)? Assuming the i5 with 128gb…

    • Yeah, where is that?Cheapest I find is this http://www.compnow.com.au/store/store/tablets/surface/micros…

      • Mate the Microsoft website is cheaper than the site you just linked. And if you're a student you get 10% off that.

        • Not with the dock and type cover. The MS price comes to at least $80 more even with the student price.

        • @search: Oh you're right about that, i didn't pick up on that. But their price for the surface alone is dearer, unfortunately that's what i am after :(
