Buying First Car, 10k below, Which Subaru?

Hey guys, a month to go before L's gone so deciding which first car to buy, I really like the overall package of a Subaru (from my pov, not a car expert), Powerful, light and AWD.

Which of these to is better?
I like both of them, just wanna get some opinions.

  • Any Reason why it must be a AWD ? :)

    • Well, because me and my family always go on long drives and sometimes go through places where theres no roads yet (just makeshift asphalt) and we were in a family van (it sucks), Just wanna get a little edge next time :)

other than that, no reason at all, but I like it.

    • My first car was a front wheel drive Liberty and it was a piece of crap. The car was designed from the outset as an AWD, and when they got rid of the drive shaft, the car was an utter loss. It was far too big to be a front wheel drive for a start, it had horrendous torque steer, poor traction and was downright dangerous in anything but ideal conditions. My friend had the all wheel drive version of the same car, and it was miles better.

OP, is manual car not an option? Between the two you've suggested, I'd go a RS

    • yea i'm a pleb and went auto, manual was expensive to learn because theres no manual car around to learn with, But thinking of learning it sometime this year.

should get manual for that car and learn as you drive. get a mate who drives manual to get you past the basis, then its all practice

I would go for the liberty if you like going for long drives. I have a MY01 liberty and its a fantastic car. Still drives better than many newer model cars. Get one that has a strong service history. Just check for head gasket leaks.

    I too also went manual.

The Gen4 is a nice looking car and seems to hold its value well. The 5th gen, while ugly is still a nice car to drive. You can pick those up quite cheap.

  • Probably got different standards, but they are neither light, nor particularly powerful. Even "AWD" is a crooked marketing term. It is 4WD. Why?? Well Subaru used to call it 4WD themselves up until this century. Glad carsales.com.au has dropped the "AWD" term.

Anyways! the Liberty is better of the 2. (But for 10 G's, you are way over paying) My friend got a good H6 for half that recently.

madmouse Maate, youse don't no nothin' about cars. Would beat your crap box anyday. WRX is fully sic man.
And my stereotype goes all the way to eleven.

        • haha, i drive a wrx on e85, so i agree that they are awesome cars ;)

That Impreza does not look like an RS MY07 to me. I don't know much about cars, but at least I can tell the difference between a steel wheel and an alloy wheel just from the first photo. That looks more like a badge-less base model.

    • I know its not your ad :), but

"HID low beams angled down so there legal"

      Firstly, they're*
Secondly, that's not how it works..

and you'd need to do the 100k service, so add on 800-1.5k

      • Damn. I just picked the cheapest car i found for him :(

    • cant do private seller and that's in NSW :(
      im in WA

  • Personally I'd go any of the two as they're both reliable, appealing and most of all JDM!!!

  • As a proud Subaru driver I salute your outstanding taste in cars. Seeing as this is your first car, I thought it might be worth mentioning that you should consider the cost of servicing in your decision making. My Subaru hasn't done this many KMs so I am unsure of the servicing costs for that many KMs, but it is worth keeping in mind. They are not cheap cars to service.

  • I have a brand new WRC Blue 2015 Subaru WRX, love it :)

  • The subarus I've driven in auto form were horrid due to the transmission, but add a clutch pedal and a proper gear stick and are much improved.
