Does Powerade go bad?

I bought some from woolworths online but the expiry is June 2015. It's so old that they still use the old style regular bottle caps. It tastes a little bit different, so is that due to its age? Don't know if I should refund or not.

  • do you mean 2014? it's not June 2015 yet.

    • No, I mean 2015. Of course it isn't, but it's only 2 months away. Meaning it would be illegal for them to sell it in >2 months. So considering it's been sitting in a warehouse for >2 years? so far, I thought it could denature partially by now.

        Definitely not illegal.

It's fine to drink, it's not the type of thing to go 'bad' as it's essentially just sugar and water. In sure it would still be fine a couple years after the best before.

I mean that they are not allowed to sell items that are past expiry date. So if they had this stock in 2 months from now, they would need to throw it out/destroy it.

        • @watwatwat: they are still allowed to although woolworths won't do this as it's very dodgy but they may reduce items for clearance past the best before.

If you wanted to take it back though they would refund you for sure, up to you.

        • @watwatwat:

Mate, what r u on about?
There is a shop near by that only sells past best before date. And I'm sure powerade only has a best before. It doesn't get destroyed or wasted. I've seen products 2 years past best before on sale.

Nothing illegal or wrong about it. Most products taste just fine.

  • shake it first

  • Is it Best Before or Use By? http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/labelling/dates/Pag…
Best before is more of a recommendation than an actual expiry and can be sold after this date.
As Powerade is mainly water and sugar, I would think it is in this category, and is fine to consume…

Best Before. I'm sure it's fine to consume but even that website admits it may lose quality. Why would I settle for loss of quality when I can refund and get 3 new ones?

      • Feel free. Your choice. I'm sure they would probably swap it for a newer one.
Exactly why stock close to or past its Best Before date end up at Rite Price or similar at highly discounted price.

        • Well this wasn't discounted by much, hence my asking.

old stock is usually on the first row. take items from the back of shelves if you want the latest stuff

Bought from woolworths online. My local woolworths would never have something this old.

      • WW and Coles are really nice to their customers. I'm sure you could go in to your local with your receipt and swap them for new stock. If they don't do this for you, tell them you'll have to contact upper management.

      • btw I didn't neg you

  • not any worse than it normal is :)
