Nexus 7 2013 just died. What is a good replacement?

My Nexus 7 has died, the result of dropping it on hard floors too much. What is a good replacement for the nexus 7? I do light gaming, and lots of ebook reading.

I've heard from people that for eBook reading, 4:3 ratio is decent, so Nexus 9, Nokia N1, Xiaomi Mipad or an iPad (if you are willing to move to another OS)?

Or there are rumours that the new Tab S line will be 4:3 ratio, so wait for that?

Many, many alternatives, depending on your priorities and budget. How about Nexus 9?

  • Sony xperia Z ultra? better hardware with calling option. Just a little bit smaller screen size 6.5 inch

  • kindle paperwhite.

Then give up on finding a cheap tablet for gaming.

  • Galaxy Tab S 8.0 is nice, if you don't mind the price tag.

  • Btw, what's your budget? Also, what's your prefered screen size?

Depending on budget, I think I can sort of recommend Tab Pro 10.1 as well, it came down to $348 ish delievered from JB HiFi (it's around $400 at the moment). Well the 2GB RAM can be a downer sometimes but it performs alright, I am just waiting for the Lollipop update (I have my doubts on whether it will be delievered to us by end of this year) because it stutters sometimes (I think it's the optimisation problem). The screen is amazing, I personally prefer Tab S screen, but I think Tab Pro has amazing screen as well. In terms of reading, when I read PDFs, I do end up with little bit of unused screen because of the screen ratio, that doesn't mean it's bad for reading PDFs though.

Get another Nexus 7, . Nice thing about the nexus is it's FULL HD 1080p (1920x1080), and Google have lollipop for it (android 5), no manufacturer specific bloatware. Not sure when my son will see lollipop on his Galaxy tab 4, other manufacturers are slow with android upgrades, some don't even have upgrades and you will be on 4.4.4 forever. They are still on Ebay as new, or check staticice to see price and who has some left.

  • just wait until expansys have cheap nexus 7s on sale, or wait until the Tab S 8.4 goes to under $300
