Cheap Chocolate Day

I'm always up for some cheap chocolate.
In the past I have hit up supermarkets on Easter Monday to pick up eggs etc that are generally 50% off. Is this still the way to go?

  • Last year my local priceline were selling lindt bunnies at 50% off.

  • Good idea.
Any tips on what to say to the kids on Easter Day?

The lie has to start early… It's Easter Monday after lunch when the bunny comes kids!

(Or reach an elite level of Ozbargain, buy the chocolates 364 days in advance and store them…)

My wife told my daughter that the icecream truck plays music when it's out of icecream. everytime one drives by she gets a little sad.

I am sure I can get away with the Easter bunny union fight hard to get overtime because of the public holiday but lost, so now the bunny comes on Tuesday.

I can see the e-book titles in 15 years' time: My Life as an OzBargainer's Kid. :)

but aren't easter eggs, even discounted ones, still way over-priced compared to big blocks of chocolate?

and isn't the actual quality of the chocolate rubbish (not even chocolate?) compared to normal chocolate blocks?

    • Last year I bought 1 kg bags of Easter eggs for $5 each. It was proper milk chocolate, not compound stuff. Made in Australia. Tasted good.

Cadbury Dairy Milk blocks are about $25 per kg. So the discounted Easter eggs are about 80% cheaper.

Aldi chocolate is $11.60 per kg.

  • Last year at KMart they had 150g Easter Eggs, Australian chocolate, for 20c. I bought 30. Because I could not balance more on the trolley.

  • I have always gone on the Tuesday following Easter, I didn't realise they were discounted on the Monday. Was a fail on my part. Thanks for the heads up :)

  • I just spoke to my local Woolworths when I was in there today and they said Tuesday

  • GF and I are on the hunt today in Melb CBD. Will report back.

I have wondered if the discounts aren't as good these days given the more orthodox (and other non-Christian) religions who don't care too much about the date.

    Let's see!
