Telstra Network - Plan Suggestions | Going from Work Paid to Self Paid

I did a search and there are so many options / advice I can't see an easy answer. Sorry I had to ask ask this again.

I am changing jobs to a TBC role/place. I need an interim plan. I am currently on a $100+ telstra phone plan - work paid
I need to move to a simple BYO plan before 1 June. My current contract expires mid April

I find the $xxx cap to be hard to use, especially with the huge penalty in pricing when exceeding the cap and my uncertainty in future use levels. I currently talk a 100s of minutes a month, but this will drop. Data usage isn't that high - mostly emails, WhatsApp and a fair amount of web traffic. I guess about a gig a month. May be more in the future. Don't really need 4G.

Don't want to be shopping around every month for a new deal (I know this is a neg in ozbargain world!)

I prefer Telstra network, given the coverage in WA. Otherwise Optus I guess. My wife is on AmayaSim Unlimited which is now $45/month.

What would you do?

  • Seems Boost @ $40 may do it with automatic recharge…?

I just noticed Amayasim has a [new?] $29 unlimited text package that may work within my parameters.

    • I use Boost and I think it's great value.

Optus coverage in my area is terrible and so I didn't have much choice either.

Maybe you can get the boost sim for peace of mind and then get a $2 optus sim or something with a day-by-day plan e.g. this just to see how the coverage is and decide from there.

  • I've been happy with AldiMobbile. I like the idea of paying for up to 365 days at very low cost and then buying the add ons as needed. It has really kept the costs down, for me at least.

But then, I'm not a heavy user.

  • Recently moved to Telechoice and am please so far.
Not quite all the Next G network, but coverage is far superior to Optus.

  • JBHIFI have a $300CR $69 12month plan. Unlimited talk text and 100gb ~ put the $400 off a new Pixel 6A 5G $599 on sale ($749RRP) and only a short contract with plenty of data to use on the latest mobile tech with Andriod13 @https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

PS: port in from outside telstra for the giftcard and you can often get a port in credit applied by telstra chat post plan (most get $10, some get $20 but often thats only on the $99x24m offering and its a persistance thing!)
