DIY Ceiling Insulation Removal

Greetings!

Moved into this old house about a year ago and there are loose ceiling insulation full of dead bugs and various stuff. I'll like to remove the old insulation and have them replaced myself. I'm thinking using wet and dry vac to remove them. Are they any good? Which make and model would you recommend? I'm also wondering where I can dispose the old insulation when I'm done with it

  • Just throwing it out there, make sure you know the kind of insulation that you're dealing with and confirm that it isn't asbestos…

Additionally, after seeing the grief that professionals went through removing the stuff (well, old bats anyhow), I'd leave it to them,,,

  • Just google Mr Fluffy…should give you the answer you are looking for.

  • i had inspection done and the house was built during 1920s and its blown in loose wool insulation

  • I wouldn't touch it…could very easily contain asbestos fibres. I think you can actually get an asbestos test kit from Bunnings or Masters. Maybe try that first using a face mask. If it's positive, don't go near it. Just a few fibres could end up killing you.

  • No good, its too thick, it'll clog the pipes. What I did was get some tough garbage bags (check out a specialist cleaning supply place) and stuff em full. Then remove a few tiles, saw a battens to make enough space and then haul the bags out. For the remaining dust and rat shit I used a leaf blower to suck it up. Of course, I was wearing overalls, gloves duct taped to my sleeves and boots, with a respirator on my face. It took several hours, was hot and dusty, and freaked my back up from being bent over. Not at all pleasant.

  • I bought one of these:

sound like the leaf blower could do the job
