Scoopon Refunding Cruise Ticket Money Because over-Booked

Hi All,

So, there was a deal on Scoopon for a 3 night P&O Cruise from Fremantle to Margaret River for $179 as a Quad Share.

I INSTANTLY purchased the 4 tickets and I was given the vouchers.

After going through the hassle of getting information, payments, booking time off work, meeting up and discussing everything needed to book the cruise, they come back (weeks later) saying it has been over-booked and they are going to refund me my money.

This is their email;

Below is important information regarding your order for the Margaret River P&O Cruise departing from Fremantle on 22 April 2015.
Unfortunately we have exhausted our allocation for Quadruple Share Cabins and P&O Cruises are no longer able to accept any bookings for this room type.
Furthermore, this deal has since sold out and we are unable to offer additional Scoopon vouchers for purchase.
We understand that your experience hasn’t gone according to plan. We pride ourselves on looking after our customers so I'm pleased to advise that your order has now been refunded in full to the PayPal account used at the time of purchase. Although this may happen sooner, please allow 5 business days for the funds to appear in your account.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused you and as a gesture of goodwill we have also issued your Scoopon account with $20 store credit. This store credit is valid for 12 months to use on any Local or Travel deal (excluding Scoopon Shopping).
Kind regards,
Leila

What should I do about this? A $20 voucher seems to be quite a lame apology. Is there any way of me to get an equivalent cruise as a replacement?

Just want to know what you would do in this situation!

Thanks All!

TLDR; Purchased tickets for cruise. They over-booked it. They're refunding my money and offered a $20 voucher as an apology for 4 tickets that have been cancelled.

Dude they overbooked and gave you a refund. What more do you want? If it was me I'd take the $20 and be done with it.

    • I guess so. But il'd be splitting the $20 voucher with the 3 other people which kinda sucks

Unfortunately not much you can do about it…just use the 20$ credit and don't buy anymore from them :P

Ah poop. Oh well. Guess I know not to trust them for future purchases. Thanks for the replies!

That sucks. If it has still put you out, let them know. That's only two weeks away. If I booked leave, maybe flights, etc I would expect more than that. I would expect another room type.

    • Yeah exactly! Also. They posted the deal again, 3 days after I purchased the tickets as if they hadn't booked out?

      • Is it a 2 step thing like most? E.g. Step 1 Buy voucher, Step 2 redeem voucher by contacting P&O with passenger names?

They likely oversell vouchers on purpose betting on the fact a certain % never get as far as Step 2 - how they make money. There was probably something in fine print about limited availability and right to refund you, perhaps check if it was attached to the voucher. I doubt you can get an equivalent.

I would try to push it up to 4 vouchers if I were you, and point out there are 4 people out there disillusioned with Scoopon (if all four are adults, that booked leave etc). But I imagine that is your highest hope.

  • Guess moral of the story is book in straight away - cruise, hotel etc. Hope you figure out something else to do instead of that cruise OP.

    • Yeah. Cheers! Searching around for another holiday at the moment. Quite annoyed about this experience though.

Never book a cruise with them , you can get the same deal with others like cruise guru and you get a confirmation straight away. I know I am on that cruise and paid the same . The other 3 day cruise on the 7 mayI has sold out of quad share only twins available and it's around $389 pp may go down to 340ish but will be for the last few cabins

As a side question, I wonder, if you booked travel insurance for this, would all associated costs be covered as per a normal holiday?

the problem these days is everyone in Australia is an entitled whinger

they gave you a refund within 5 days and 20 dollar credit. suck it up.

    • Im sure you would "suck it up" after spending your personal time planning and organising a holiday and then an incompetent company comes back saying you can't go

      • You are lucky you missed this cruise worst food ever of all my cruises , many items you had to pay for .
I haven't cruise PO for many years and they have gone down hill big time , if you have the chance book
RCI or princess much better .

  • I'd be pretty upset about it and would be contacting PO and tell them that this reflects very badly on them and that you would prefer not to 'go public', and you what tell them you preferred method of recompense, another cruise etc.

    • Thank you for some positive feedback! Ill give it a shot a see what happens :~)
