I'm Looking to Buy an Apple Watch Steel but The Nicer Bands Are So Expensive!

Any ideas where I can get a cheaper Milanese and Leather Band substitute?

You're buying an apple watch and your complaining about the price of the band?!

The equivalent of buying a sports car and then complaining about how much it costs to upkeep it..

Well here's an idea OP: wait until the Chinese rip it off and then you'll be able to buy it for $20 bucks on Aliexpress / Feebay.

I am getting the feelings that a lot of 3rd party companies will try to come up with accessories for Apple watch like straps, case etc. Perhaps wait around for a bit and get the straps by the 3rd party companies?

This being said, I also have the feeling that it's going to be hard to find a decent one at decent price since the Apple Watch is just getting released.

      Best advice here to date…

Like anything posted about Apple here, you just have to wade thru some predictable opinions first. ;)

      • To be honest, my opinions were more like the tds's and scrimshaw's, but I think having the same thing said 3 timnes is an overkill.

I've already seen one strap and a case from a tech review site, though it was more of a battery extender then a strap.
I think soon people will try to make accessories like straps from kickstarter or somewhere like that as well.
Since Apple Watch has just gotten released (first smart watch by Apple), it's slight gamble for manufacturers to produce something like a fancy strap,
unless they use methods like kickstarters or something similar to that imo.

        • Maybe your opinions are similar, but your advice was helpful and not condescending.

Problem here at ozbargain, is that many have this belief that they must have a dig at anyone who considers Apple.

When challenged they come back with the "it's only a joke"

Problem is the "joke" is so old

        • @RockyRaccoon: Welp, I have to admit that buying a first gen electronics by pre-ordering it without any added in bonus does sound very un-ozbargain. I think people were just criticising that as well.

My view sort of lies within that line. I think there is a fee to pay for being an early adapter, other than the full RRP you pay, you are pretty much going in without knowing what the product will be like (unknown value or usefulness), which is very un-ozbargain like. Apple products, they have premium on them which makes them not the best bang for the buck, which puts many people off. Not to mention, the current smart watches do have a lot of areas to improve upon.

That being said, value is a very subjective term. I don't think people should criticise someone else because of the brand that they are going into. Some people seem to be vocal about opinions. This opinion applies to most of the fans, be it Android, Apple, Samsung, LG, HTC, MS, so on and so forth. I've been bashed by Apple fans on buying Windows laptop, Android tablet etc etc before, so don't think that it's just for Apple.

Fair enough, and this happens, but really the point here, is that bashing back doesnt stop this stupid game.

I dont see that as I cant be bothered looking at Android deals. If I did bother I'd call that same stupidity on any Apple poster. (no reflection on Android just like I dont look at deals for bra's as I dont own one)

          As you said

value is a very subjective term

So if only others here could respect that others have different value sets. And legitimate competition is healthy.

As your your point on early adopters.

Without them products don't get started.

Thank heavens some do start early, so why turn them off, it's the next generation products that then get developed, that the ozbargainers can go for, or at least get last years model cheaper.
          :)

        • @RockyRaccoon: I think early adapters are not really ozbargain like, since people look for values at Ozbargain, they make fun of it. So is Apple users, they pay premium for products. Whether that premium is justified would depend on person, though I don't think Apple is exactly a bang for the buck type of company, barring few products. Though I think some Apple users value the premium that they've paid so much that they put the Apple products on top of everyone else's choice, which leads to fan boy fights, in my opinion.

If you go to tech driven forums where people discuss about newest gadget and stuff, I think you'd see different reactions to early adapters. Though in terms of Apple Watch, that'd bring different reactions from me at least, since I personally see no differentiating factors that sets Apple Watch apart from any other smart watches available, other than it's made by Apple. Though, that's another story.

Also, since I feel slightly bad about ranting on about something that's irrelevant to the OP's question, there are adapters that allows you to use the straps from normal watches to Apple Watch on kickstarter. Even though this doesn't technically answer your question, I think it would open your options up a lot.

  • If the op hast not pre ordered the apple watch he/she will have at least 4 weeks wait to find a band he/she likes.
I usually see the higher end looking accessories on tech review websites. Just keep an eye out for them. Already seeing nice looking watch stand albeit I have no clue on price.
