Cheapest IPod Touch possible. Should I wait for Boxing Day?

Ok, I was planning to buy a 8gb IPod touch for a christmas present (can be slightly late =). I have some current options.

  1. Get price match from bigw price at officeworks for $216.60
  2. Go to Myer for price $268.00 - %10
  3. Haggle down the price at JB HI FI
  4. Buy Online from a retailer
  5. Wait for next sales before christmas
  6. Wait for boxing day sales.

Does anybody know which way to go around this, i know that option 1 is the cheapest but maybe it is harder to get a refund or other problems???

Anybody got some examples of IPod discounts last boxing day/

Anybody know a place for cheap IPod accesarys (Retailer, NO Online)

  • I'd go with option 1. Think how much fun you could have with it between now and Boxing Day. $216.00 is a bargain, I paid $329 not that long ago, and even then it's still one of the best gadgets around and I wish I'd bought one earlier.

    • It's such a waste of money owning an ipod touch when you have to pay extra for apps and games on top of what you already paid.

  • I'm not 100% on this but I don't think iPods get discounted on Boxing day, mainly because retailers use Boxing day as an opportunity to move stock and I don't think stores have much trouble moving Apple stock to the extent that they need to be reduced. I think at best Myer has a certain percentage off accessories if you buy an iPod. I don't think JB Hifi negotiate prices on iPods, from what I know retailers make extremely little on them, it's mainly a way to bring customers through the door. But you might be able to haggle the price of the accessories instead, at JB. I would suggest against an online retailer, Apple only provides warranty for products sold by authorised retailers, so it might be a little difficult with online stores.

Generally, the only time that I've seen iPods discounted significantly was when a new one had been released, or was about to be released. If the iPod has any problems, you take it direct to the Apple store and they'll fix/replace it, taking it to where you bought it will just delay the process. For cheap accessories, I'd say have a look around at JB, they have both expensive and cheap accessories so you need to look around for a bit.

  • iPods are also discounted on Apple's Black Friday sales. If the years gone by are anything to go by, then you can expect one coming up pretty shortly. Whenever I bought my iPod Classic (last year or year before) I think it was 8% off retail. With pricematching on that given day, then that should be a nice deal with some extra on top of that.

It's US news but from memory Apple did typically follow pretty much the same deals here last Black Friday: http://au.gear.ign.com/articles/104/1046341p1.html

Expect to probably see something here on OzBargain / on the web shortly.
