Dell quote and sudden price change! What to do?

Hi,
I have a problem with Dell. I have requested a quote for a laptop which has been advertised in their outlet.
Got a quote on my e-mail this morning, priced at $849, saying that quote is valid for 1 day.

Just contacted sales consultant to ask if I can pay with my credit card, but he said that price has been changed for $1099!
Laptop at $849 was advertised as refurbished, $1099 it's a price for "as new" laptop

Reason is "There was technical glitch hence the price quoted was wrong".

Is it legal to change price like that? What can I do now?
The sales consultant didn't even said bye and just ended online chat!

In the quote says:
"The transaction in this document (all sales and services) is subject to Dell's Terms and Conditions available on www.dell.com/ap or on request.
Services are provided by Dell as described in the relevant service agreement (which may comprise order forms or "Service Descriptions" available
at www.Dell.com/ServiceContracts, "Technical Specification Forms" or "Statements of Work ". (2) By signing a Dell Quotation and/or submitting a
purchase order pursuant to Dell's Quotation, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to be bound by Dell's Terms and Conditions and any
referenced Service Agreement (together the "Agreement") . This Agreement is the final agreement between the parties in connection with the
transaction, replacing any preprinted or other terms in any purchase order, invoice or other document issued by either party. (3) The Agreement
may not be amended or varied by any other subsequent terms or conditions imposed by you without: (a) prior written approval and signature of
Dell's Segment General Manager or their delegate; and (b) a specific reference to this paragraph (3). (4) These commodities, technology or
software were exported in accordance with the United States' Export Administration Regulations. Diversion contrary to US law is prohibited. For the
protection and security of your Credit Card information, Dell requests that you DO NOT send any Credit Card information through either email or
fax."

Probably illegal, but not much you can do about it tbh.

    • yeah, second that. Though you can argue it's misleading and because of them, you have passed on other offer in the store and wasted your time blah blah blah. But it really depends on the sales consultant.

If the stores are still open, try go to Harvey Norman and ask them similar specs price. I remember I went to Harvey Norman and told them I was buying a Dell laptop. I really didn't ask them to match it coz it was completely different brand, but the store manager reduced the price a lot. So I bought it off them.

      • oh about misleading, bring up fair trading. Because eventhough quote is a quote, it's $200 difference. It seems fishy.

      • I think it's more likely they sold the refurbished version to another customer and are now trying to sell him the as-new variant.

If you must have the laptop, I'd buy the as-new version… Dell's jacking up their prices very soon on April 20th. IT could affect pricing on the outlet too.

  • if they delivered your computer assembled, then you can go to the ACCC

if not, then as above, what can you do?

  • I'd be pissed off and take my money elsewhere, but I'm just spiteful
