Best budget compact cameras (for overseas travel)

Looking for a good quality budget compact camera for overseas travel. Not to fussed on brand. Mainly looking for something reasonably easy to use and obviously something that will take some good shots on my trip. Cheers in advance!

Canon S110. Takes very good shots, easy to use for the beginner, but offers loads of manual controls as well. Very portable. Roughly $300 AUD.

    • Thanks, having a look at it now!

    • Agree with the Canon S-series.

I have 2 SLRs and also an older S95.

And while they don't compare to the SLR, I find the S95 a great compact.

    • Looks great mate, but apparently amaxon doesn't ship this item to Australia? where else can you get this for ~ $300 AUD?

    Why not using smartphone camera?
A good smartphone camera is on par, if not better than some budget cameras.

    • Had the Samsung Galaxy s3 for about 2 and a half years now, its on its last legs. Taking it over not having to worry about loosing it or breaking it. Will use it for snaps at night and odd ocassions but wanting to do the bulk with a compact camera.

  • I have a Samsung WB250F; it's an old model now, but I think it's fairly decent. The 350F is $179 from Kogan though you may find it cheaper elsewhere. The rest of the smart camera range has different numbers.

And yes, I bought it for the gimmicky wifi that can only transfer like 12 files. But hey, better than zero. XD And I like that bendy flash. Not sure whether they have it on more recent models, though.

We opted for less junk on our travels and just use our smart phones now.

I'm amazed there can be a camera thread and not one mention of the Sony RX100.
