Telstra not handling complaint about their driver

Does it sound right that I made a complaint on Telstra's website but they fobbed me off to call another number instead because it's not their 'Department'?

I had a near miss with a Telstra vehicle where they turned in to me as a pedestrian even though I had a green light. I had to jump out of the way to avoid getting hit.

Anyway, I took the plate down and informed Telstra of the incident and the details. But rather then dealing with it, they want me to call the Fleet and deal with them.

All I seek is the driver receive some constructive feedback so nobody gets hurt in the future. Is this unrealistic?

So.. did you call the Fleet? Keep us updated. So far, IMO, it doesn't sound like they've "fobbed you off" - they genuinely might not deal with that end of things via the website. Give the Fleet a call and see what comes of it.

You might end up feeling more reassured over the matter and how it's been dealt with, after actually speaking to someone over the phone, rather than simply having someone respond to your message over the internet. Could work out better.

I got fobbed off by Nationwide Towing when one of their tow truck driver nearly ran us over on the footpath while pulling into a servo and the driver then ran out after me and threatened to kill us.
Completely unprovoked, as I was writing down his number plate.

I also made a complaint with the police, no one gave a shit. You have to be killed before anyone lifts an eyebrow.

    • I don't know why it is, but it seems that tow truck drivers are the scum of the earth. Maybe it is because they get jobs handed to them rather than actually having to win the business they get a special sense of entitlement or something.

    • Invest in a dashcam and watch the attitudes change

      • ^ ^ This.

I complained to a taxi service following a very hair raising experience caught on film and they were receptive. Still trying to decide whether it's worth sharing footage of a private vehicle that came within 10cm of t-boning me (I had right of way) and then running a comically red light 1km further up the road.

Dash cams aren't much use when you're walking.

I worked in a call centre for a company where some callers were complaining about drivers to me. While understandable, theres nothing i can do but inform the manager, who probably didnt do anything too. I mean, the callers were not customers, so there was no business to discuss.

  • Had a rather abusive sales bloke who can't be told no, ended up calling the cops with a police number issued. Informed Telstra and they couldn't care less. On the flipside, when I had an issue with their service (think Family and Friends promo), formally lodged a complain and said TIO will be involved next, heck the service then become tip top.

Tl;dr version - unless TIO is involved or could be involved, they don't give a shit.

    Thanks team for the thoughts.
I decided not to follow this up further. What's the point of fighting City Hall?
I was hoping they would take ownership of the problem and manage the complaint. I guess my complaint falls outside of their 'custody and care' parameters.
I work in an environment where behaviours are orchestrated and managed, it's a LNG Facility.
I just wanted to see the behaviour of this driver influenced so that they drive more carefully, respect pedestrians and abide by road rules.
Didn't expect any retribution or discipline.

    Make a Police report.
Physically attend and lodge a report and make a complaint against the Registered Owner of the Vehicle.

Don't phone Crimestoppers or faff about with posts on Telstra's Facebook page.
