Opinion Please - PS4 2 Controllers - COD Ghosts/Advanced Warfare & Watchdogs

Morning Ozbargainers,

Opinions would be appreciated on this deal please. Have been holding off to get a stand alone PS4 console then hoping to pick up Shadow of Mordor to get me started. Was hoping to pick up the console new somewhere around the $400 mark, I'm a patient man. I've now been offered a console bought in Sep 14 with both CODs, Watchdogs and two controllers for $380. Console is in great condition and I'm getting the receipt dragged out to confirm approx purchase date.

Do I bite the bullet, is this too good a deal to turn down? All opinions appreciated as always

Ghosts is disappointing and the online is dead.
Watch Dogs, if you listened to anything or saw any footage before release, is also a disappointing mess. It set out to change the gaming world with never before seen hacking mechanics and put the sandbox genre on its head. And we get a GTA4 clone with a mechanic that lets you discriminate against passers-by judging from their internet activity.

…Advanced Warfare is okay :3 If you're one of the 9 people who can still get excited about CoD every year.

It's a good buy in point at $400, but not if you're not going to play all of the games or use the second controller. Keep in mind that you'll also need to pay $60ish to get PSN if you want to play online. I'd say jump on it if the game being offered was Bloodborne, but buying a PS4 with no exclusive PS4 games (Or even no next gen platform exclusive games) is more than a little silly. Everything being offered can be played on literally every platform apart from the Wii. Even the Wii-U has Watch Dogs, and Ubisoft games go for $10 2-3 years after release on that platform.

EB only gives you $200 for a second hand trade in next gen console by itself, so, using that knowledge, those games work out at costing 65 bucks each. Watch dogs is $25 on PC at the EB at the moment, so, if you were to ask my opinion, this is definitely not worth it.

      Agree with FrankMcFuzz

I would rather buy it new at $380-400ish with the console alone rather than second hand.

Bottom line is. Don't buy a bundle because it looks cheap but you have no interest in majority of the bundle games.

Watchdog and COD Ghost worth ~$12 each in EB trade in only. You will be very lucky if you can get more than that on Feebay.

There is a lack of PS4 exclusive games so far and PS4 is crowned the name of "Port Station 4". Games are either port from older Gen or non exclusive.

As a new PS4 owner I am a bit disappointed.

I found myself spending most of the time in FFXiV (starting with free 14 days free trial). It is MMORPG as its best and with the power of PS4 there is minimum wait on loading time and no lag.

    • Ghosts multiplayer is not dead. Far from it tbh.

      • Granted it was ps3, but played it on the weekend and it had 5000 people online, couldn't get a normal game of team death match at all.
You'd get 5 times that still playing MW3

    • you would be insane to sell to JB when https://au.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SPS4500GB001#.VS3Ko6aZ2… you can sell it for $291 cash right here.
or $300 atleast on gumtree console only.

you are talking about prices eb games give for these consoles i have never seen a ps4 on ebay or gumtree or anywhere else going for 200 or even 300. so those prices mean nothing you are not paying $65 for any game.

but i welcome being proven wrong show me where i can purchase a ps4 for $200 right now and ill buy it.
i agree the games are nothing good.

      • I'm just saying to OP, when he finds out how boring the console is and he wants to trade it in to EB that he'll only get $200 for it.

Seriously. Just look at the number of people who say "I don't use my PS4/Xbone that much" on OzBargain alone.

        • Bargain isn't a gaming community. Just because you don't like it anymore doesn't mean others don't.
And I already pointed out pinot even close to what they are going for used.

  • +1

Looks decent to me especially if you want to play a certain game.
Heres what i picked up last week off gumtree.

Used white ps4 one controller and 6 games was bought from target in january this year i got the receipt and box.
    games include:
    Battlefield hardline
    Call of duty Advanced warfare
    GTA V
    Destiny
    Far cry 4
    Drive club

^all games i wanted mostly except for drive club lol.

    I paid $550

    • Which is funny, because Drive Club is the only one on that list you can't get on previous generation consoles less money.

      • I haven't even played drive club im not a fan of racing games except the old NFS underground.
        the rest are awesome though.

        • Yeah. They're awesome on my PS3 too, and I didn't have to buy a whole console to play them, or pay for online.

        • +2

@FrankMcFuzz: Not my fault your too cheap to upgrade.
Then again we are all cheap on here lol

        • @FrankMcFuzz: Awesome but not as awesome as the PS4 versions. Keep talking yourself out of the PS4 Frank, it's only a matter of time.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: When they stop trying to sell me two year old games that I already own or can buy on my PC for cheaper and better, then there will be ample reason to get one, but certainly not before. With Bloodborne being the only exclusive (Not a fan of InFamous, and driving games don't register on my radar) I absolutely could not justify the purchase with enough games to play on it.

With my new gaming PC, I'm a 3 week old PC Master-racer, but I haven't even called anyone a 'console peasant' yet.

        • @FrankMcFuzz: you do realize console games will never be cheaper but one thing console games has that pc doesn't it the ability to resell games i dont want or play anymore.

btw i build my gaming pc over 12 months ago.

just before you have one doesn't mean you cant have another.
i got ps4 cause lots more players on console games i play, still game on pc aswell. i know pc has more overall but thats over many many games since there is no next gen and last gen.

          welcome to PC gaming.

        • -2

@FrankMcFuzz: Meh, PC's are like arseholes, everyone's got one. I've got a decent gaming rig myself but much prefer a good console and controllers.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: You can get a controller for PC. I got one yesterday, and to christen it I bought Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for $3.75 off Steam. Console preference is impossible in this game-drought; I go where the games are.

For anyone also thinking about getting Brothers, there's an accessory for the game that you're going to want to have nearby in order to get past the ending.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/tissues

        • @FrankMcFuzz: yeah I have 360 controller for my rig, I don't like how most of the 'Big Screen' compatible games were either half assed and had issues that needed messing around with to work right or were completely stuffed. In not one for sitting in front of the PC, I need big screen.

Also forgive me if I'm wrong but you're using a PC to play a multiplatform game that's been around for ages, has been on PSN sale for less $ and was already free on PS Plus? What happened to exclusives, two year old games and all that other stuff?? There's no drought though, you just preferred to buy a new PC instead of a PS4, I have enough games on my PS4 alone to keep me going for at least 12 months should I not buy any more already.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Well it's good you have enough games to keep you going for 12 months, because they're not making anything other than remakes. You hear about God Of War 3? Good thing they made LITERALLY THE SAME GAME again instead a new one or a spin off. Hold out for No Man's Sky and Uncharted and then….. uh…… Nah, that's it.

See, Brothers may be multiplatform, but at least it's not a remake. I'm also playing FTL, Dwarf Fortress, Dota, gunna buy Kenshi when I get home (Maybe I think?), Divinity, Mount and Blade: Warband, Pillars of Eternity, and Cities: Skylines. I'd like to see you play any of those on your PS4, with 0 moddability. Hey, at least you can watch BluRays on it, I have to use my PS3 for that. I can't play Bloodborne and InFamous, but I can play Dark Souls 2 (Who would though, am I right?) and Prototype so I'm not going to lose sleep. I can always get Bloodborne when Sony gets off their remaking ass and pays someone to actually make a new game for the console.

Oh wait, they tried that, didn't they.

Exclusive games. Original games. Just so happens to be games that players and reviewers alike seem to think are garbage. Everything else is a remake.

Guess I might be waiting a while.

          Just for interests sake: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/bloodborne

TL;DR, why would anyone buy a PS4 for anything other than Bloodborne?

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Yeah sorry, other than FTL (which I played back in the day) that list of games you're playing sounds like a bunch of crap though you must realize that I have a PC and could play them if I wanted. I'm happy playing Bloodborne and DaS2 right now. I'm happy with the remakes I have played as I skipped them when the PS3 was on its last legs and went to Steam as did many others. Sony know that they have a lot of users like myself and even more that came over from Xbox and haven't played these games.
That Driveclub score is only relevant to someone who has no internet, they released it too early. Its a good game now.
Also explain to me the difference between a multiplatform game and a game that is on PS3 and PS4 only? What makes Brothers OK being on all platforms but The Last Of Us being only on PS3 and (a much better version) on PS4 is a bad thing?

Anyway I'm not interested in your rants Frank, you'll buy one later and play these games you're bitching about and form your own opinions instead of regurgitating those you read on the net.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: >Bunch of crap.

          http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/kenshi

Explains why you have a PS4 then. Even the lowest scoring game of those PC exclusives score better than the highest scoring PS4 exclusive (that isn't Bloodborne or InFamous or a remake). The PS3 and Xbox360 were not like this. Why is this happening to the new generations, especially in the third year of its lifetime?

Answer: Because these consoles are relying on graphics. And graphics cost more to make than valuable gaming experiences.

This is "OzBargain" not "Let's all pay $600 so we can watch BluRays"

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Ozbargain has nothing to do with it.

How can you exclude Bloodborne, Infamous and all the other games to suit your lopsided argument without laughing at yourself?

Let's all pay $600 for a new GPU every year so we can feel good and keep bitching about how BB and Infamous don't exist and the other games that were running at 20fps on 10 yr old hardware are perfectly fine and shouldn't be remade.

I'm glad that TLoU, Dark Souls 2 and Tomb raider were remastered. I've enjoyed playing them at last. I don't have to buy the others that release, I also buy multiplatform games and I've enjoyed those as well. I won't mention BB and infamous as they don't exist in your head.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: I've said, multiple times, that InFamous and Bloodborne are the only decent exclusives on the console. But I'm saying once you take them out of the equation, what's left? A console should have more than 2 good games before you buy it. If the NES only had two games 3 years after release, we'd still be suffering the gaming crash caused by ET.

I'm not that into InFamous; I felt the first one was weak compared to Prototype, but the second one was a little better but I stil wasn't into it. But I'm a big Dark Souls fan. Not big enough to buy the second one again on the next generation console, because I've already played it and even as a seasoned DS1 player, Dark Souls 2 was quite disappointing. If I wanna play it again, I'll play the version I have rather than buying it again. But I acknowledge that they exist. In 2023 when the PS4 has 8 exclusives games, I'll definitely pick up a copy of Bloodborne with my new Super Slim 20TB PS4 for $199.

If your console has been out for more years than you have decent exclusive titles, THEN you have a problem. It's not about "PC Master Race". Screw that. I'm a console gamer and always have been. But as a hardcore gamer, it's absolutely impossible to justify buying those new 'consoles'. Paying for online, splitscreen is rare, games are short and aimed at adults but the difficulty is smashed down as low as possible so people don't get turned off (Even though Bloodborne does the opposite and everyone loves it). No backwards compatibility. This annoys me; I love backwards compatibility, it means I can put my old consoles away and just use the new one. And if I never had the previous one I can buy the old games on my new console for cheaper than remakes cost. And, not only that, but if all they were going to do was release PS3 games on the PS4 then they should've just added PS3 support.

@FrankMcFuzz: Wow yeah, Sony have a real problem with the PS4.

  • +1

Maybe talk down to 350 with advice from above, but I think it's good for the extra controller, and I'm sure you'll like the games. Watchdogs is OK - just not as special as everyone expected, but it's mostly playable (mind the odd glitch on the PC version).

  • Thanks for the advice,

@Frankmcfuzz - plan is to buy next gen games with the money saved on this deal versus other brand new deals. Have finished LOUR on PS3 and the other games slung into bundles these days don't interest me and would just be hassle to try and sell them or trade them in for a pittance. Will likely pick up Bloodborne in the foreseeable when the price starts to drop a little.

@holden93 - Looks like a nice little deal. Loved Far Cry 3 so I'l be hoping to pick up FC4 as well. Happy gaming

@Belsesame - another buyer has offered $370 so don't think he'll budge but having thought about it and priced online i think $380's a fair price. 2nd controller would be setting me back $50-80 bucks anyway.

Any other opinions also appreciated or if there's a deal I'm missing

    • +2

you can always sell the games that comes with it and buy Shadow of mordor thats if you are not into cod

either way get it it's a good price.

  • its a good price for me
