Site Slow Tonight or Just Me?

Is it just me or is the site slow tonight? Seems to be the same across multiple devices and connections

  • And now it's seemingly back to normal! sigh

  • Yes it was slow about 15 minutes ago.

Not just you. The database server has been very slow tonight. 1 minute loadavg went up to 30 sometimes. IO seems to be fine doing around 70-100 tps with minimum wait, however the CPU seems to be starved.

Edit: stats on our database server at the moment.

Very high %steal, which according to the man page:

Percentage of time spent in involuntary wait by the virtual CPU or CPUs while the hypervisor was servicing another virtual processor.

i.e. the CPU time was starved by other VPS on the host server.

  • the site is crawling along this morning

Very, very slow at the moment…. can barely do my work. Uhm, I mean….

  • Slow for me at present, loading a reply to a comment hangs and spins for about 10-15 seconds.

  • Yes it has been very slow today — problem persisted from yesterday. I have contacted the hosting company and I hope their support guys are convinced that they need to look at their hypervisor. The first level 1 support I've talked to on live chat threw me back saying that I'm on an unmanaged hosting plan.

Gotta love level 1 support: "Did you try unplugging and plugging it back in?"
Ozbargain is quite famous among IT circles. You should have name-dropped for priority treatment :)
Silly me, thinking Ozbargain was running off 50 dedicated HP 54L Microservers with 4 SSD's from Amazon each.

  • Site is inaccessible intermittently - http://i.imgur.com/EQrrPtm.jpg

  • Just reporting that I'm experiencing slowdowns as well. Hope the host sorts this out. Good luck, Scotty and everyone!

  • Hosting company did a live migration of our database server to a different hypervisor. Problem seems to be resolved now.

    • Very fast for me again.

There seems to be an issue with the https certificates on chrome.

  • Slowing down then speeding up - definitely not the usual experience this morning.
