Ulmon CityMaps2Go Pro - A must have for travellers!
I used this when I was travelling in Europe and you download all the maps you need here (eg. London, Paris, Nice, etc.) and then you use the app overseas using just your GPS and it doesn't require Data usage.

** Also available through the Android Appstore **
How do I get the Amazon Appstore on my Android device? Download the Amazon Appstore for Android here: https://www.amazon.com.au/getappstorenow.

Osmos HD has been a bit of a fav of mine for a while, great game if you guys havent got it.

    • Yeah I downloaded it and i'm hooked! So much fun!

      • It's not the multiplayer version is it though? If it is have you (self promo alert) seeen this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183966 ?

        • It is multiplayer, but it only unlocks after you pass a certain point in Odyssey mode.

I've finished the game, but not good enough for multiplayer lol

    Unmechanical is awesome too.

  • Fabulous offer. Too bad Amazon doesn't have anything for ios :/

Not trying to Apple bash here but it will never happen as Apple will only allow app installs through their store whereas Google allows installation from "unknown sources".

      • That sounds rather… insecure, don't you think?

        • +4

Android gives you an option in the security settings whether to allow installation of apps from "unknown sources" which is just a term for anywhere but the Play Store. So yes it allows more freedom which brings along insecurity but only if you allow it to. It's up to you as the individual user on what apps you install and how you setup your phone.

        • +3

@keyman: But let's not delude anyone about the situation: installing an application from anywhere barring "official" markets eg. Play Store, Amazon Appstore is risky unless you are 100% certain it's not infected. It doesn't matter how many people have stated it's clean nor what security scans tell you.

I mean hell Google has been doing a pretty crap job at even keeping Google Play free of malicious software (although it should be noted they are gettng better ie. curating more like Apple.)

  • If you are already using google maps on your phone, you may as well use that as an alternative to Ulmon CityMaps2Go Pro. You can download maps of places you are going to visit overseas and use them offline. Works great actually.

Another free Offline map that one should have a look is MAPS.ME. It comes with routing option which is really handy.

Don't forget about Nokia Here maps. Have been trying it out for a couple of weeks and am pretty impressed!

        • The only hiccup of HERE is that it doesn't include map of Japan.

      • +1

MAPS.ME is fantastic. I used it last year and it navigated all around the US without a data connection, no hitches or problems.

      • Thanks gm3stevens, I will check it out, sounds like a good app.

        • +1

For sure you will like it!

    • +2

Google Maps has no offline turn-by-turn navigation, no offline drive, walk and public transport directions.

All very useful when traveling abroad.

Nokia HERE Maps has all those, plus speed limit warnings, in many countries and regions.

Available for supported Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices.

      • +1

Indeed. Google does not want you offline when you could be another data collection point in order to better er.. serve you (ads).

        • Spot on! Google's business model is largely reliant on data collection.

  • Thanks OP! Some good apps there!

    • which ones do u recommend?

  • Eagerly awaiting for the us app store.

  • Doesn't seem to be free anymore?
I'm going to the amazon app store and it is price as normal.

  • Same for me with city maps - says free but when I go to get it directs me to paid version.

edit - I think it is because I have a Amazon US account and keeps directing there??

Muddled my way through it - found it under app store settings cloud - better keep away from this stuff it's too good for me.

    • Awesome! I've updated the deal. Thanks jimbeam!

  • Awesome I was just about to install Wolfram Alpha from a er … less reputable source. So sweet :)

EDIT: … and I already own it through Amazon Appstore. I must remember to check the store occassionally for what I actually have got through this silly deaks :p

  • Thanks - have now a few more - but Adventure Time game not compatible with my android tablets. Maybe I should upgrade.
