Looking to Buy Furniture - IKEA Vs Super Amart Vs Fantastic Vs Freedom

Hi guys,

We're looking to buy some queen size bedframes and dining room chairs (we have a table we thought we could use, but it depends on the price really).

I know Freedom is expensive, so it's really my last option. I was thinking either Ikea, Super AMart or fantastic, but I don't know how their quality vs price compares. I don't want to buy the cheapest stuff that goes broken in a year too.

Any suggestion from you guys would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

  • I have used IKEA and Freedom furniture in the past. Both good for last 4-5 years despite huge difference in the price.

Agree totally with this. I've had IKEA, Super A-Mart, Freedom and Fantastic Furniture pieces. Super A-Mart and Fantastic Furniture are definitely a lower quality and don't wear as well.

IKEA is the best bang for your buck as long as you don't mind self pick up and assembly.

Freedom is decent quality but you pay more for it - they're okay if you get them on decent sale (20%+ off).

I'd go IKEA first, then Freedom on sale, and if you really don't care for the quality/durability, Super AMart and Fantastic Furniture.

    • cant agree more, im still using my ikea bed bought from 7 years ago…moved 5 times too.
still going strong. apart from the edges are peeling off a bit.

We bought Super A-mart furniture for our lounge room and Dining room last year, and its fantastic. Quality has been so good, we decided when we upgraded our bedroom a few weeks ago we would go back and look again. We came away with a queen suite for just over $1300, including an extra tallboy(Was on special at the time). It was the Everest package that was on special. http://www.superamart.com.au/packages/bedroom/everest-48978/

Returns and exchanges are quite easy. one of the bedside tables came damaged, with one of the drawers not put together correctly. Simple phone call, and send some photos through, and they came and exchanged it.

We bought from Freedom furniture because the quality was just levels above what we saw at those other places. We used a combination of deals to pay which saved us a lot and ended up being only slightly more than what we would have paid at Super Amart.

    50% off second item - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/185878
    20% off giftcards - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190947

If you manage to maximise both deals, it can save you up to 40% off.

We had $50/$100 giftcards and were making payments each time using about 10-15 giftcards and there were no problems at all.

    Ikea from Gumtree :)

Second hand furniture is a massive cost saving. Often, furniture made decades ago is available for a quarter the new price and the quality is massively better.

      • Yep, could be Freedom Furniture or Harvey Norman sort of furniture, but even a couple of years old and you'd end up with a lot better quality for the price. Probably for about 1/4 of what it was worth when new!

  • This is probably about 7 years ago now, I bought a bed from Super Amart, it was sturdy enough but I am not sure how to describe it. The parts just don't fit together very well, ie. the manufacturing equipment probably has some accuracy issues, but other than that, it is still good.

The good thing about ikea I find is that it is quite easy to buy parts for furniture that is broken because a lot of the inner parts are the same for ikea furniture, even discontinued products. Also, I find ikea seems to have a budget range and a premium range, you can tell by their pricing. If you are going for ikea furniture from gumtree, you should go for their premium range only as their budget range is almost like disposable furniture.

  • dont buy from amart, because whatsoever they dont refund, and they always have installation problems
