Sup,

Was watching Shark Tank AU yesterday and this ladies idea is just ludicrous. Hasn't she heard of Ozbargain.
If Scotty was to give a pitch he'd beast it for sure!

    shes cute!

  • Wouldn't call it a spinoff, richgurl is a niche website, ozbargain is not.

  • Yeh definitely not ozbargain. She chooses the affiliate websites and the products on her website aren't bargains but are only items from the shops sales pages where she receives commission off any sales. Unlike ozbargain where anyone can post an item and no commission is received but money made off advertising.

Fashion items such as clothes, dresses, handbags, accessories, makeup etc. are items that wouldn't be posted on ozbargain because standards for bargains are higher across a range of categories. Whereas if the category was purely fashion the standard for a bargain would just be a good price within the fashion world.

If she made her website more like ozbargain where people could post fashion bargains and kept her page which links to affiliate websites sales she might increase her unique visitors making more money off commission and advertising.

Also the blonde lady needs to learn to open a new tab.

effectively same as cashrewards, qwibble, etc, except SHE gets the cashback, not YOU!

I thought http://www.missyconfidential.com.au/ had that side of things covered pretty well - definitely a good way to keep up with sales that might not be OzBargain worthy but fall within that good value fashion niche.

  • wow haven't watched TV for a while and didn't even know this was on.

How did Oliver walk in there and say his business is worth 1 mil when it hasn't yet generated any income ? Weird.

Mash up the products from multiple merchants and then wrap around a catalogue site — the idea is definitely not new. We have FashionLane posting deals + links to his website for a while, which includes more merchants.

Good looking site though, although spending $20k to develop an affiliate site seems to be excessive. Advertising / affiliate commission is really the low hanging fruit of the Internet startups — easy to get started but limite return (yes I've been through that :) so here's my advice: don't quit your day job until you are certain it's going somewhere.

Asking $50k for 20% equity — that's $250k valuation with $just 250 revenue. Not surprising that the sharks didn't bite.

    • yeah that's what i was thinking too. $250k with 20k debt and $250 revenue :P

  • They have to throw in some bad or unworkable ideas into the TV show along with the genuine great business ideas or models. Keeps the show interesting. It's like when you're watching MKR or MasterChef. You want to see contestants completely fail sometimes.

    • id watch a show where the contestants failed every time

  • I just watched this one episode and got to say it's very poor compared to the US version. Most of the pitches are ideas and not even great ones. I mean how do those sharks not know about affiliate marketing? I think they really lost me when they were worried about serial killers using the guy's carpooling app. Have they not heard of Uber X or Lyft and the huge amount of business they are doing worldwide?

The sharks are way too polite and seem to be out of touch. The entertaining part of the US version is the confronting no BS style of the sharks. You often want to check out the websites of the pitched products/services after the show but none of the ideas were very interesting.

I reckon they should get Ruslan Kogan or someone a bit more abrasive on there to shake things up a bit.

    • Yeah… Everyone is a pussy cat, no one seems to take any deals and the ideas aren't the best. Much prefer US/CA version.

I think it's just the editing that's bad. Or maybe deliberately so.

When Stefanie demonstrated the business concept, the camera zoomed in showing all the judges impressed by the idea of earning commission from sales. I mean, c'mon how can they have not heard of affiliate marketing?! Steve Baxter is an Internet veteran. Naomi Simson founded RedBalloon which has its own affiliate program. I am sure the very moment they saw the website they know what it is about. But the show must go on and there's 10 minutes before the next commercial break so …
