What are the best data only SIM options around?

I have a dual SIM phone which is great, I use ALDI PAYG for my calls (12c p/min + 365 days exp.) but I really only use that when I need to call a business or the few people I know who don't just use internet connections.

For data I've been using Lycamobile (2GB for $10) but I have found them very difficult to use since day 1 when I was trying to activate the SIM. They have no app to see the data and manage your account, and today I'm down to 40mb to last me 4 days… I don't think so, so I tried to recharge early, impossible, I'm already subscribed to this package. They have frequent drop outs, I have to use an app to bypass the no tethering restrictions etc.. It's really just a pain, so I'm looking for an alternative.

They have options of $10 for 2GB or $25 for 5GB, does anybody know a company who can match this for data only? I'm sick of seeing these Unlimited calls + xGB data packages, I don't want the calls. People today call through the internet for 1mb per 2 minutes and send SMS/MMS etc through WhatsApp. I don't need to pay $20-$30pm for this ancient rubbish that I will never use.

I'm looking for anything between the $10-$25 / 2GB-5GB range, preferably on the Telstra network and not on a contract. Anybody know of anything better? Or will I be told to wait for a cheap SIM+data sale and stock up?

Thanks!

    Yatango, on the Optus 4G network. Hoping other people can chime in on whether or not they're any good.

    200MB = $5 p/m
    500MB = $9 p/m
    1GB = $11 p/m
    2GB = $15 p/m
    3GB = $25 p/m
    5GB = $39 p/m
    10GB = $69 p/m

    • I use them for data when travelling. It's been fine, had no troubles (although I don't utilise the 4g as I use a 3g modem still).

      Definitely the cheapest when I looked into it.

  • Was with Optus but their data/voice coverage is essentially useless and patchy in rural zones away from populated areas. Once you track away from the main highway corridors, forget it. Therefore had to revert to Tel$tra prepaid eventhough more expensive.

  • I don't want the calls. People today call through the internet

    And the telco's know it, that's why Calls/texts are dirt cheap and data is the defining factor for plans these days.
    It's also why your dream plan of Data only "$10-$25 / 2GB-5GB" probably doesn't exist.
    Best Value data only plans I've found (about 12 months ago) were through Virgin and Vodafone $40 for 10+Gb.
    I don't think you'll find anything with that data quantity on Telstra.. ALDI $30 for 3Gb is the best you'll find I reckon.

  • As has been picked up in comment, King of data, Vodafone Hutchinson. Queens for calls, exorbitants T&O.. .
    While subscribers commonly pay for what is in a name. Data weekends, and similar cutting-edge, deals, are those often overlooked. Lollipop Hotspot-LTE 'net fwiw.

  • IOW,
    prepaid vha 40: 2gb-everyday 18gb-weekends, 20gb/mo>(+12 hours voice)
    roams optus to approximate similar coverageāƒŸafaik. Best to tether mobile^^
    I went for $10 3gb telstra starters in the day, but they're long gone,
    if not outdated.
    ps: picked up voda starter kit $5 @woolworths (req spend 30,00) last day.
