Moto G 4.5" vs Huawei Y550

Hi Guys,

I've purchased a Moto G from The Good Guys a while ago for someone else, but wish to buy one for myself that is LESS than 5" with the screen size.

After browsing the forums here, and other websites, it seems that my current options are likely a 4.5" Moto G, or the Y550.

It'll be my main phone, and I'm looking for something reliable.

What do you recommend?

I'm happy to wait a week or two if a sale, or new phone comes out.

  • I noticed an earlier post today where you mentioned owning a Sony Xperia Z:

May I ask why you are considering such a downgrade? Wouldn't it be cheaper to return the Sony Xperia Z and get its problems fixed under warranty?

    • Good spot. I m also interseted in knowing issues with xperia z. My Z (Bought second hand from ebay) and running great.

      • Hi Mumbles & cniminc,

Yes, after ongoing issues with it, dealing with the retailer, sony directly, the retailer again, again, etc… I finally got it refunded.

(Main issue was the plugs not closing properly, hence rendering the phone non-waterproof. Despite being changed many times, the same issue kept creeping up.

And my girl's happy with the Moto G; I'd just prefer a 4.5" version, as 5" was a tad on the large side.

  • If you want to use Nav apps such as HERE, Sygic, Google Nav etc. you shouldn't buy Y550. GPS in Y550 is very unreliable.

    • yeah, mine keep losing its gps signal in over the west gate bridge.

  • +1

Y550 needs to be plugged into power, then GPS will be flawless

  • I have a G LTE version. But I bought it for $200. Its ok. Its well supported and its fast for what it is. Great screen. GPS is flawless.

    Horrible camera. Worst camera ever.

Its close to $275 now (shit currency). Its not worth $275.

    $200 is sort of ok.

    • Ok, thanks tonyjzx.

      Is it a 5" or 4.5"?

Where did you buy it from?
