Seagate Hard Drive Replacement outside of Warranty Period

My seagate hard drive has died, and 2 year warranty expired November 2014. I would like it replaced, but seagate refuses, saying that it is out of warranty. I mentioned ACL and ACCC, but they said doesn't matter. They sent me a link to their warranty website

Am I entitled to a warranty? How do I make them replace my drive?

it's out of warranty stop making childish threats when you know yourself that it is out of warranty.

  • How do I make them replace my drive?

Give them (or someone who sells their products), some money…..

  • I've had several fail too - the most recent one just a week or so ago, and I'm weighing up my options. It's within warranty, but I honestly don't think I want to buy another one as this has happened too often for me to have much faith in them.

    • if its within warranty you should definitely get it replaced. That's your hard earned dollars you spent on them.

If you don't have faith in them anymore then sell the replacements. That's still better than nothing.

While Australian Consumer Law certainly allows you to pursue remedies beyond the manufacturers warranty period, we're not talking about a $2000 TV or PC here.

It'd be a hard stretch to say that only 2 years warranty on a ~$150 HDD is unreasonable…particularly when there are plenty of HDD models you could have chose with 3 or 5 years coverage.

Just buy an HGST or WD and move on.

  • I'm not happy with any portable hdd.
I kept my backup & hardly used them; seagate & hitachi.
    They just stopped working.

I think I put some on 2x64gb flashdrive & the rest on clound.

You won't get warranty, you aren't entitled to warranty, you need to pay for out of warranty service or replace the drive yourself.

When buying a new one, consider this article when deciding on the brand. Hint: Seagate are crap.
