I have Motorola Xoom MZ601 where I have copied a DAT video file (which can be played on my laptop via VLC player). But on tablet I get "Unable to open this type of file" error. I have tried using VLC for andriod and MX Player with no luck. Can you please suggest any free media player to play this DAT file?
The mobile version of VLC does not have the proper codecs to playback the file.
That DAT file is most likely from a VCD, and is really just an MPEG file. You could possibly just rename the file with an MPEG extension and try it again, but if it doesn't work you can convert it to a more recent format, such as MP4, MKV or M4V.
use Handbrake to transcode them to m4v or H264 MKV.
