Asus ROG Notebook: i7-4710HQ/8GB/1TB/2GB GTX850/15.6" Fullhd/Win 8.1 $1,299 Inc Post @ Wireless1

ROGSPECIAL

Went over to check out this headphones deal and saw the massive banner advertising $700 off their current price of $1,999 for this laptop. Only other place I could find with stock of this is JB at $1,998.

Wasn't in the market for one, but have googled the reviews and they seem pretty good: review and review. In summary, at the $1,299 pricepoint this looks like really good bang for portable gaming buck.

Banner says online only, so guessing you can't walk into their Parramatta store to purchase at the same price? Postage is free though. Might pop in to see it in the flesh and then order online. Not sure when the deal expires. Will update on look/feel and expiry when I go in and find out tomorrow.

          @tc4101:

          Nexus 10 released in 2012 that I own has a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution, so a higher PPI than Macbook Retina and I've been rocking it for over 2 years, I can tell that it isn't that much better than 1080p.

          VGA to 1080p was a huge leap, not in the same league as this. Even maths proves it:
          VGA: 640x480 = 307200 pixels
          Full HD: 1920x1080 = 2073600
          Macbook 13: 2560x1600 = 4096000
          Macbook 15: 2880x1800 = 5184000

          Full HD has 6.75 more pixels than VGA while the Macbook 15 has 2.5 more pixels than Full HD. So the jump isn't as big. Maths aside, the higher the resolution you get, or higher PPI, the less your eyes will notice. So even a jump from Full HD to UHD screens won't be that great.

          @FabMan:

          The jump from VGA on a iPhone 1,2,3 on a 3.5" screen to say a 720p on later phones at 4.5" is similar.

          Either way if you can't tell the difference between 1080p vs 2880x1800 on a 15" screen from a foot away, then OPSM may be in order

          And you comparing 1080p on a 10" screen which is more than adequate. But on 15.6" screen its apples and orange.

          Redo the maths with PPI calculations.

        • @tc4101:

          This post is about a laptop, you were originally talking about laptops, you then started talking about resolution not PPI (VGA vs 1080p), so we should focus on that.

          The point is, it isn't as a dramatic increase as you suggested nor is there much need for more than 1080p screen for the majority of users, especially as the GPU isn't break neck in speeds. VGA to Full HD was a big deal, Full HD to 1880 isn't as important, to UHD would be a bigger leap but even then it's not as important.

          "Its like using VGA screen vs a 1080p screen on your smartphone"

          Its called an analogy mate or you can't see or read. In that case 1080p on 15.6" is more than adequate ;)

        • @tc4101: Yes a poor analogy, but you went on about it. People buying this need a faster GPU before worrying about higher resolution screens.

          I'm just glad it isn't 768.

      • I cant believe there are still people using 1080p! actually I guess my grand grand dad had one but he upgraded it later I guess!
        there were this oldie couple talking to me in the market the other day when looking for a new all in one 4k computer so I thought maybe I help them to fix their dead old computer, and they said there was nothing wrong but the resolution was only 1080p!

  • expired now :)

  • Code no longer valid?

  • Has anyone's order been sent yet? Mines been saying 'processing' for the last few days. Just very keen to get this laptop!

    • I believe mine is being delivered today by Fastway couriers

  • The price went back to 1499

  • Had anyone received the laptop?
    I have just found out that the wifi network adapter is 802.11n (Dual Band) instead of 802.11ac as stated by Wireless1. I am seriously not happy with it because currently all my mobile devices use the ac network. Upgrading my old laptop to use the ac network is one of my main priority. Please help!!

    • I have compiled the screenshots for comparison. > http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/117102…

    • Talk to them on the phone. At first they said it was their mistake and they will send a wifi adapter USB stick, which I refused. Then they offered to reimburse $100. I hesitated and I requested for a new adapter chip(market value is $29). Finally they offered to send me a free adapter chip plus a $50 reimbursement.

      That guy has updated the details and here is the old web cache for anyone interested.

      • Hi Cocobear,

        I apologise again for the error and I hope the adapter has reached you. Thank you for your patience and please do not hesitate to contact us again if you have any issues!

        • Thanks acek47 for honouring the adapter. I have received the mail yesterday. Going to install it over the weekends.
